Sunday Selections for Race Day #9 at Timonium Fair Grounds

Posted on 01 September 2013 by Gary Quill

Recapping Timonium’s Saturday Race Day #8 9-race card had just 4winners, but all 4 were Top Selections having $2 WIN pay-offs of $15.00 (3rd), $3.00 (4th), $7.20 (5th) and $3.60 (8th).

The BEST BET of the Day (7 2-2-2) King Touch (R5 #6 – 7-2 M/L) was SCRATCHED.

The LONGSHOT PICK (8 2-4-1) Thurmont (R9 #2- 15-1 M/L; 6-1 PT) pinched back at the break, was sent up inside rivals in early backstretch, shifted out a bit, made a prolonged four wide run and finished nicely to gain the place to return $6.40 to PLACE and $3.80 to SHOW.

SHOW Parlay Play of the Day, $26 on That’sthequestion (# 1; 3rd race; 6-1) angled off the rail near the half mile marker, edged up three to four wide in hand mid way down the backstretch, moved to engage the leaders after a half, vied around the turn, took over approaching the stretch, kicked clear and was kept to a drive late to win by 2 lengths to pay $15.00 to WIN, $$6.80 to PLACE but more importantly $4.40 to SHOW. This adds $32.40 to the $28.85 bankroll for a Day 9 wager.

The JockeyWorld.org racing term of the day is #244 – Quiet Hands

Whether you are a grizzled vet like GQ or a horse racing novice, make these informative 2-3 minute videos part of your daily routine. You will be amazed at the amount of new cocktail party conversation ammo gained.

Selections for Sunday September 1st at Timonium Fair Ground are below. Other than WIN, PLACE and SHOW wagering, Timonium offers EXACTA’s, 50 cent TRIFECTA’s and 10 cent SUPERFECTA’s in every race. Unfortunately, they do not have Pick-3’s, Pick-4’s nor ROLLING DOUBLES, only an EARLY DOUBLE (1st & 2nd races) and a LATE DOUBLE (last 2 races on the card). My suggestion for each race is to BOX the below selections in EXACTA’s and TRIFECTA’s. Also play the DOUBLES for a $1 by wheeling the selections, which costs a total of $9. Please note: 1st race post is 1:05pm EDT.

#6 – Laurelcoveproposal (5-1)
#1 – Feisty Albert (5-1)

SHOW Parlay available bankroll: $62.45 ($28.85 bankroll – $28 wager + $61.60 return)

SHOW Parlay Play of the Day: $62 on Florcita (# 6; 8th race; 3-1) has been away since mid-July, but has been working out regularly. This 4 year old is very quick from the gate, but stamina is not her friend while traveling 5½ – 6 furlongs. The cure is this 4 furlong dash at Timonium which not she doesn’t get to the Winners’ Circle, hopefully she’ll hold on to help keep the SHOW Parlay alive for the last racing day (labor Day) of the meeting..

Looks like Day 9 will be another beautiful day to enjoy the 9 exciting chase scenes thoroughbred horse racing has to offer at the Maryland State Fair. Good Luck!

Saturday Selections for Race Day #8 at Timonium Fair Grounds

Posted on 30 August 2013 by Gary Quill

Recapping Timonium’s Friday Race Day #7 7-race card had 6 winners (2 Top Selections in BOLD type) having $2 WIN pay-offs of $3.00 (1st race), $5.80 (2nd), $3.80 (3rd), $5.40 (4th), $3.80 (5th) and $5.20 (6th).

The BEST BET of the Day (7 2-2-2) More Glitter (R5 #5 – 5-2 M/L; 5-2 PT) made a steady rail progression past the three furlong marker, shifted out off heels mid way on the final turn, came three wide into the stretch, lugged in near the sixteenth marker then rallied through tight quarters along the rail in deep stretch to miss by just a neck to return $3.00 to PLACE and $2.20 to SHOW.

The LONGSHOT PICK (7 2-3-1) Video Storm (R7 #2- 6-1 M/L; 7-1 PT) had never won a career race when not on the lead ata the first call… and that still holds true. Jock never could get him to the lead, worse yet got stuck on the rail behind a wall of horses. On the turn tried to find an opening along the rail, but there was no room having to check just before entering the stretch, which finished any chance of hitting the board, so the jock just took him back and coasted home having a view of all 5 rivals.

SHOW Parlay Play of the Day, $26 on Set to Smoke (# 2; 1st race; 3-1) was slow leaving the gate which usually spells trouble in these 4 furlong dashes, but he showed enough interest in the final furlong to savage the SHOW spot, paying $2.20 to SHOW. This adds $2.60 to the $26.25 bankroll for a Day 8 wager.

The JockeyWorld.org racing term of the day is #243 – Quarter Pole

Whether you are a grizzled vet like GQ or a horse racing novice, make these informative 2-3 minute videos part of your daily routine. You will be amazed at the amount of new cocktail party conversation ammo gained.

Selections for Saturday August 31st at Timonium Fair Ground are below. Other than WIN, PLACE and SHOW wagering, Timonium offers EXACTA’s, 50 cent TRIFECTA’s and 10 cent SUPERFECTA’s in every race. Please note: 1st race post is 1:05pm EDT.

#9 – Coldback (5-2)

SHOW Parlay available bankroll: $28.85 ($26.25 bankroll – $26 wager + $28.60 return)

SHOW Parlay Play of the Day: $28 on That’sthequestion (# 1; 3rd race; 5-2) has finished in the money in 8 of 13 career starts on the dirt and gets a much more capable rider in the irons today than in his most recent two off a short layoff. The 6 year old gray has earned a living racing on a bullring track at Charlestown, so he should feel right at home negotiating The Big T’s tight turns. This week has been brutal with $2.10 and $2.20 SHOW payoffs, but if his one hits the board, the return should be higher.

Looks like Day 8 will be another beautiful day to enjoy the 9 exciting chase scenes thoroughbred horse racing has to offer at the Maryland State Fair. Good Luck!

Friday Fair Selections for Race Day 7 at Timonium Fair Grounds

Posted on 30 August 2013 by Gary Quill

Recapping Timonium’s Thursday Chalk-Fest where 6 of the 7 races on the card were won by the Post Time favorite had 6 winners (3 Top Selections in BOLD type) having $2 WIN pay-offs of $4.20 (1st race), $4.00 (2nd), $25.00 (3rd), $3.80 (5th), $2.40 (6th) and $3.80 (7th).

The BEST BET of the Day (6 2-1-2) L.A. Girl (R6 #1 – 2-1 M/L; 1-5 PT) after the scratch of #4 – Carrietta reduced the field to five, it also left L.A. Girl as the lone speed and prohibitive favorite who dueled early along the inside, moved clear within herself after a half mile, widened the advantage into the far turn then held a comfortable margin while being kept busy to the sixteenth marker and went on to win by 3 lengths to return the next to lowest possible WIN payoff of $2.40, $2.10 to PLACE and $2.10 to SHOW.

The LONGSHOT PICK (6 2-3-1) Pac Yer Tack (R4 #7- 9-2 M/L; 2-1 PT) lagged well off the early pace while saving ground, angled out leaving the far turn to commence a run, circled four wide into the stretch and finished fast to secure the runner-up position and return $3.00 to PLACE and $2.20 to SHOW.

SHOW Parlay Play of the Day, $24 on Asia Gray (# 3; 2nd race; 1-1) was 9-2 M/L, but the betting public sent her off as the Post Time favorite. She broke alertly then was content to rate just off the lead while saving ground, was maneuvered three wide for racing room mid way down the backstretch, rushed up to engage the leader soon after, dueled with that one to the sixteenth marker then pulled away late under strong handling to win paying $4.00 to WIN, $2.40 to PLACE and yet again just the 5% minimum $2.10 to SHOW. This adds a mere $1.25 to the $25.60 bankroll for a Day 7 wager.

The JockeyWorld.org racing term of the day is #242 – Quarter Horse

Whether you are a grizzled vet like GQ or a horse racing novice, make these informative 2-3 minute videos part of your daily routine. You will be amazed at the amount of new cocktail party conversation ammo gained.

Thursday Timonium Selections for Racing Day 6 at The Maryland State Fair

Posted on 28 August 2013 by Gary Quill

Believe it or not, this odds-board (pictured above) was NOT installed with the originally constructed grandstand when the Maryland State Fair took up residence in Timonium in 1879.

Recapping Timonium’s Wednesday Race Day#5 7-race card posted had 5 winners (2 Top Selections in BOLD type) having $2 WIN pay-offs of $3.00 (1st race), $5.60 (3rd), $11.00 (5th), $4.40 (6th) and $4.40 (7th).

The BEST BET of the Day (5 1-1-2) Go Allie (R3 #6 – 9-5 M/L; 6-5 PT) Go Allie moved outside the early speed to take a short lead passing the wire the first time, was content to rate off of that one past the half mile pole, re-bid 2 wide after a half mile, dueled into the far turn, could not match strides near the three sixteenths marker and faded to 3rd, returning $2.10 to SHOW.

The LONGSHOT PICK (5 2-2-1) Bomb Dust (R5 #7- 10-1 M/L; 18-1 PT) settled back early, angled out leaving the far turn, rallied four wide to loom a major player approaching the stretch, kept on willingly but simply was no match for the winner, settling for a runner-up position to return $18.20 to PLACE and $11.60 to SHOW.

SHOW Parlay Play of the Day, $24 on A.P Wild (# 4; 7th race; 6-5) cleared all rivals early, dictated the pace along the rail, kicked away from his foes under some nudging around the final turn and was merely shown the whip through the stretch to go onto an easy victory paying $4.40 to WIN, $2.60 to PLACE and most importantly for the parlay wager, the 5% minimum $2.10 to SHOW. This adds a mere $1.20 to the $24.40 bankroll for a Day 6 wager.

The JockeyWorld.org racing term of the day is #241Quarter Crack

Whether you are a grizzled vet like GQ or a horse racing novice, make these informative 2-3 minute videos part of your daily routine. You will be amazed at the amount of new cocktail party conversation ammo gained.

My suggestion for each race is to BOX the below selections in EXACTA’s and TRIFECTA’s. Also play the DOUBLES for a $1 by wheeling the selections, which costs a total of $9. Please note: 1st race post is 1:05pm EDT.

Wednesday Selections for Racing Day 5 at Timonium Fair Grounds

Posted on 27 August 2013 by Gary Quill

Recapping Timonium’s Monday Race Day #4 7-race card posted had 6 winners (2 Top Selections in BOLD type) having $2 WIN pay-offs of $6.00 (2nd race), $7.60 (3rd race), $10.80 (4th), $8.00 (5th), $34.40 (6th) and $4.80 (7th).

The BEST BET of the Day (4 1-1-1) Keep Me Informed (R6 #3 – 2-1 M/L; 4-5 PT) never picked up his AFTER he got squeezed to the back of the field at the break as #5 and the eventual winner (#4) broke to the left leaving the gate. Still, unless our Best Bet sustained and injury as a result of this mishap, there was no excuse for his lackluster effort, finishing 5th in a field of 6.

The LONGSHOT PICK (4 2-1-1) Lookin’ Foxy (R3 #1- 5-1 M/L; 5-2 PT) took more action at the betting windows than the Morning Line oddsmaker anticipated, as this 7 year old mare was sent off as the 5-2 second choice. She took right to the lead out of the gate and just extended her lead as the race progressed. In the end, winning the one mile contest by 10 lengths to return $7.60 to WIN $3.40 to Place and $3.40 to SHOW and “that’s OK” is what radio announcers would say when giving race results in which the SHOW payoffs equaled or exceeded the PLACE payoff).

SHOW Parlay Play of the Day, $20 on Scipion’s Girl (# 3; 7th race; 8-5) normally on the lead, allowed the Post Time favorite (#1A) duel a 20-1 longshot for the lead in the early going. That strategy proved to be a winning one, Scipion’s Girl rallied past the leaders near the Funnel Cake stand (ala Dave Rodman’s call) to go onto an easy victory paying $4.80 to WIN, $2.60 to PLACE and most importantly for the parlay wager $2.40 to SHOW. This adds $4.00 to the $20 initial investment for a Day 5 wager.

The JockeyWorld.org racing term of the day is #240 – Quarter

Whether you are a grizzled vet like GQ or a horse racing novice, make these informative 2-3 minute videos part of your daily routine. You will be amazed at the amount of new cocktail party conversation ammo gained.

Selections for Wednesday August 28th at Timonium Fair Ground are below.

Rough looking card… small fields and filled with chalk. Good Luck!

1st race – $4,000 Claiming for fillies and mares 3 y.o. & up – 4 furlongs
#1 – Seductora (1-1)
#3 – Superstitious Love (7-5)
#2 – Clearcutadvantage (6-5)

2nd race – $16,000 Maiden Claiming for fillies and mares 3 y.o. and up – 6½ furlongs
#1 – Kissed by the Mist (5-2)
#5 – Gingko Girl (8-1)
#4 – Halo City Girl (8-1)

3rd race – $6,250 Claiming for fillies and mares 3 y.o. and up – 6½ furlongs
#6 – Go Allie (9-5)  $$$ BEST BET $$$
#4 – Scipabeat (3-1)

#3 – Ara Diamond (7-2)
#5 – Corsetiere (7-5)
#7 – Heza Royal One (10-1)

5th race – $15,000 Claiming N3L for 3 y.o. and up – 6½ furlongs
#7 – Bomb Dust (10-1) $$$ LONGSHOT $$$
#5 – Brush Creek (7-2)
#6 – Bulaga (9-2)

6th race – $32,000 Allowance N3X for 3 y.o. and up – 4 furlongs
#2 – The Absolute One (7-5)
#1 – Alluseeismytale (2-1)
#5 – Radiant Talent (8-5)

7th race – $25,000 Maiden Claiming for 3 y.o. and up – 6½ furlongs
#4 – A.P. Wild (6-5)
#5 – Ascendancy (6-1)
#7 – Son of the Sun (6-1)

SHOW Parlay available bankroll: $24.40 ($20.40 bankroll – $20 wager + $24 return)

SHOW Parlay Play of the Day: $24 on A.P Wild (# 4; 7th race; 6-5) has 4 lifetime races to his credit. In each of them he’s sprinted to the lead, only to weaken in deep stretch every time. He sheds the blinkers today, which should help him relax enough early in the contest to have enough stamina in the final furlong to hold of his rivals, if not for the victory, to at least finish on the board.

Looks like Day 5 will be another beautiful day to enjoy the 7 exciting chase scenes thoroughbred horse racing has to offer at the Maryland State Fair. Good Luck!

Monday Selections for Day 4 at Timonium Fair Grounds

Posted on 25 August 2013 by Gary Quill

Recapping Timonium’s Sunday Race Day #3 9-race card posted had 6 winners (3 Top Selections in BOLD type) having $2 WIN pay-offs of $6.00 (1st race), $11.00 (4th race), $7.20 (5th), $9.40 (6th), $20.40 (7th) and $2.40 (8th).

The BEST BET of the Day (3 1-1-1) Craftwell’s Belle (R6 #3 – 3-1 M/L; 7-5 PT) was well backed by the fair patrons, but disappointed them when she failed to fire in the lane and flattened out, barely holding onto the SHOW spot to return $2.20 to SHOW.

The LONGSHOT PICK (3 1-1-1) Ballet Dancer (R9 #2- 6-1 M/L; 16-1 PT) was hustled right to the early lead, 2 lengths clear of closest rival into the stretch, was game in the inside when headed 100 yards to the wire, but yielded to be second best to pay $13.00 to Place and $8.00 to SHOW.

SHOW Parlay Play of the Day, $29 on Love’s Strong Hart (R7 #1 – 5-2 M/L; PT 2-1) raced 3-5 wide throughout this contest, but even that was no excuse for his dull effort, finishing 4th of 8, taking down the $29 SHOW bet. So we’re down to $20 to try to build it during the next 7 days of the meet.

Today’s JockeyWorld.org Racing Term of the Day is #238 – Prop and Wheel

Whether you are a grizzled vet like GQ or a horse racing novice, make these informative 2-3 minute videos part of your daily routine. You will be amazed at the amount of new cocktail party conversation ammo gained.

Sunday Selections for Racing Day 3 at Timonium Fair Grounds

Posted on 25 August 2013 by Gary Quill

Recapping Timonium’s Race Day#2 10-race card posted had 9 winners (5 Top Selections in BOLD type) having $2 WIN pay-offs of $17.40 (1st race), $4.80 (2nd), $4.40 (3rd), $2.80 (4th race), $7.00 (6th), $5.80 (7th), $3.60 (8th), $4.00 (9th) and $12.60 (10th).

The BEST BET of the Day (2 1-1-0) Morning Light (R6 #3 – 3-1 M/L; 5-2 PT) rated just off the early leaders, moved four-wide on the far turn to take command and drew away in the stretch to win by 4 ¼ lengths, paying $7.00 to WIN, $3.80 to PLACE and $3.00 to SHOW.

The LONGSHOT PICK (2 1-0-1) High Bar (R4 #6- 6-1 M/L; 9-1 PT) stalked the 1-5 favorite throughout, was kept to task and closed gap willingly, only to come up ¾ length short while surrendering Place money late, returning $2.80 to SHOW.

SHOW Parlay Play of the Day, $20 on Conflicting Report (R7 #1 – 6-5 M/L; PT 1-1) went to Post without his stablemate (Star Zapper). Nonetheless, he was bet down to the 1-1 favorite, duel with eventual winner from gate to wire, coming up a ½ length short, returning a paltry $2.40 to Place and the minimum required payout ($2.10) to SHOW. The smallest ROI (5%), only added $1.40 to the bankroll, but it’s a win no less, so we get to Day 3 with $29.40.

Here’s Frankie Lovato’s racing term of the day, #238Prep (for Prep race)

SHOW Parlay Play of the Day: $29 on Love’s Strong Hart (# 5; 3rd race; 5-2) considering this gelding is 12 years old and still competing is truly amazing. He’s earned over $500,000 during his career. At today’s (4f) distance he’s hit the board 30 out of 37 times. This old-timer is worth the risk to keep the SHOW parlay alive.

Looks like Day 3 will be another beautiful day to enjoy the 10 exciting chase scenes thoroughbred horse racing has to offer at the Maryland State Fair. Good Luck!

Saturday Selections for Racing Day 2 at Timonium Fair Grounds

Posted on 24 August 2013 by Gary Quill

Recapping Timonium’s Opening Day 9-race card posted had 6 winners (3 Top Selections in BOLD type) having $2 WIN pay-offs of $4.00 (1st race), $10.40 (2nd), $4.00 (4th), $5.40 (6th), $13.40 (7th) and $7.60 (8th).

The BEST BET of the Day (1 0-1-0) Southern Squall (R2 #6 – 3-1 M/L; 7-2 PT) usually quick from the gate, got off slow, giving up a few lengths early in this 4 furlong dash, but somehow mustered a rally passing all her rivals except the 3-5 winning favorite to return $3.00 to PLACE and $2.40 to SHOW.

The LONGSHOT PICK (1 1-0-0) Play Like A Raven (R2 #1- 8-1 M/L; 4-1 PT) did just that, and like the Super Bowl Champion version, not the sloppy version we’ve seen in the pre-season thus far, rallied in the stretch to victory paying $10.40 to WIN, $4.80 to PLACE and $3.80 to SHOW.

SHOW Parlay Play of the Day, $20 on Prairie Trip (R7 #9 – 4-1 M/L; PT 5-1) was more forwardly placed early than usual, which was a great sign as he always rallies. With the added ½ furlong here (61/2f), it was just a matter of when in the money she’d finish. Well she proved to be the best, winning by a head returning $13.40 to WIN, $4.60 to Place and providing a 40% ROI ($2.80) to SHOW. Thus, we add $8 to the initial $20 for Day 2.

Here’s today’s term, #236 – Post Time

Whether you are a grizzled vet like GQ or a horse racing novice, make these informative 2-3 minute videos part of your daily routine. You will be amazed at the amount of new cocktail party conversation ammo gained.

#7 – Fiesty Albert (4-1)
#6 – Inkster (3-1)
#8 – Never Counted Out (5-2)

#5 – Canuta (5-2)
#7 – Evil Lad (10-1)

SHOW Parlay available bankroll: $48 ($40 bankroll – $20 wager + $28 return)

SHOW Parlay Play of the Day: $28 on Conflicting Report / Star Zapper (#1/1A; 7th race;6-5) on paper are the top 2 in this race. So the thought is if/when both finish in the money, then the SHOW pool only gets split to two betting interests instead of 3. This will result in a higher than normal SHOW payoff for what is anticipated as a 6-5 favorite. On the other hand, this situation may bring out a “bridge jumper”, who places an extremely large SHOW bet, in hopes of getting a quick 5% on his/her short term investment (often tens of thousands of dollars . These people are referred to as a “bridge jumper” because if the “mortal lock” to finish 1st, 2nd or 3rd does not, then that person may become suicidal and go jump off a bridge

Looks like Day 2 will be another beautiful day to enjoy the 10 exciting chase scenes thoroughbred horse racing has to offer at the Maryland State Fair. Good Luck!

Maryland State Fair Opening Day Selections at Timonium Fair Grounds

Posted on 22 August 2013 by Gary Quill

During the Pimlico meet I introduced fans to former jockey Frankie Lovato, Jr. who is doing his part to educate horse racing fans. Lovato is the founder / creator of JockeyWorld.org who with his staff of Kayla Jarvinen and Brittlan Wall work tirelessly to help increase the fan base of thoroughbred horse racing. This year’s project was to provide 365 Days of Racing Terminology via videos on YouTube.

Using an alphabetic format, Frankie and his staff started on January 1, 2013 posting a video describing the term “Ace Deuce”. Their mission was to continue throughout 2013, posting a term each day. Well they are still going strong, having just passed the 5/16th pole.

Here’s today’s Racing Terminology #235 – Post Position

Whether you are a grizzled vet like GQ or a horse racing novice, make these informative 2-3 minute videos part of your daily routine. You will be amazed at the amount of new cocktail party conversation ammo gained.

Selections for Friday August 23rd at Timonium Fair Ground are below. Please note: 1st race post is 1:05pm EDT, evey live racing day of the meeting.

1st race – $10,000 Maiden Claiming for fillies & mares 3 y.o. & up – 6½ furlongs
#7 – Anne At the Line (9-2)
#2 – Active Mayhem (5-2)
#3 – Vivaco (9-2)

2nd race – $5,000 Claiming N2L for fillies & mares 3 y.o. and up – 1 1/16 mile
#1 – Play Like A Raven (8-1) $$$ LONGSHOT $$$

#6 – Lemon Cookie (5-1)

5th race – $5,000 Claiming for fillies & mares3 y.o. and up – 4 furlongs
#6 – Southern Squall (3-1) *** BEST BET ***
#1 – Gold on Gold (20-1)

#7 – Miss Speaker (9-5)
#5 – Princess Wilma (20-1)
#9 – Tracey’s Smile (7-5)

SHOW Parlay available bankroll: $40 (Start with $40 in case we need a reserve)

SHOW Parlay Play of the Day: $20 on Prairie Trip (# 9; 7th race; 4-1) is the pick here because this race has the most runners (10) which should provide more than a 30% ROI, if this 6 year old mare can hit the board. She rarely tosses a clunker but also seldom makes her way to the Winners’ Circle (7 of 45), but consistently picks up minor purse money (5 times 2nd & 10 times 3rd from 35 fast, dirt track starts. Trainer Scott Lake always seems to bring “live” runners to The Big T, and this one is his only entry on the opening day card. Jockey Gerald Almodovar gets the mount, who has guided 8 of 15 (53%) of Lake’s runners to victory in the past year. A win would be nice, but Place or Show will return the same amount for the initial SHOW Parlay bet of the meet.

Looks like Day 1 will be another beautiful day to enjoy the 9 exciting chase scenes thoroughbred horse racing has to offer at the Maryland State Fair. Good Luck!

Horse Racing Returns to (Timonium) Maryland on Friday as State Fair Opens

Posted on 20 August 2013 by Gary Quill

The Maryland State Fair, the only remaining state fair east of the Mississippi to continue to present thoroughbred horse racing, kicks off its ten (10) day meeting on Friday at the Timonium Fairgrounds. Nine races are on the program. Friday marks the first day of live racing in Maryland since the end of the Pimlico spring meet on June 8th.

Racing will be conducted Friday August 23 through through Monday September 2nd, except for Tuesday, August 27th will be a dark day. First race Post Time during the entire meet will be 1:05pm EDT. Admission to the track is included in admission to the fair.

The fair will have a series of concerts as follows…

Grammy nominated pop star Carly Rae Jepsen, will perform live on the race track infield on Sunday, August 25th. The “Call Me Maybe” girl will be joined by UK’s new boy band sensation The Wanted whose song “Glad You Came” brought them international acclaim.

On Sunday, September 1st the multi-platinum-selling and award-winning recording artist Three Days Grace will perform live on the race track infield. The band has been touring non-stop since the release of their #1 chart-debuting album “Transit of Venus.”

Concerts start at 7:30 p.m.

As far as horse racing at the fair, the Maryland Racing Commission approved to increase the number of racing days from 7 to 10. On the surface, this is great news for die-hard racing fans but made Maryland Racing Secretary Georganne Hale’s job more difficult. She must fill races for these 10 days. In the past, with only racing on two weekends, some horses could run twice during the meet. Now she has to find horsemen willing to run and ship into Timonium during the week. Let’s hope she can work her usual magic and produce races having quality (7-8 horse) fields.

This year horsing racing fans who find themselves at Timonium playing the ponies will certainly see runners from the top local conditioners like Hugh McMahon who shared the 2012 trainer title at “The Big T” with Jamie Ness. This year you may want to keep an eye out for horses saddled by Scott Lake who last year had 3 winners and a runner-up with just 4 starters, and relatively unknown to Maryland racing fans Corby Caiazzo had 2 winners and a third from 4 starters.

The leading jockey for the 2012 7-day Maryland State Fair meet was Travis Dunkelberger with 10 winners. He took the riding title by 3 victories over fellow journeyman Jonathan Joyce while longtime local jockey Alberto Delgado had 6 trips to the Winners Circle. Not sure we’ll see the ageless, 1982 Eclipse award-winning Delgado this year, as he’s been recently seen at Del Mar riding for west coast based trainer Art Sherman.

Dunkelberger, a mainstay atop the Charlestown jockey standings, will certainly make his presence known at the 2013 Maryland State Fair meet. Some new faces who may challenge him for the riding title in 2013 are apprentice Victor Carrasco who has been winning on 24% of his mounts this year, Chelsey Keiser who was leading apprentice at the Colonial Downs meet and 18-year-old Puerto Rican native apprentice Jevian Toledo. You heard it here first!

For each of the ten (10) live racing days a blog will be posted with selections for every race, including a BEST BET, Longshot and SHOW Parlay Play of the Day. Full-card simulcasting will be offered at Timonium only on live racing days. Admission to the racetrack is included with admission to the Fair. For more information, visit the Maryland State Fair.

End your Summer of 2013 on a high note and enjoy at least one of the ten greatest days of the Summer watching 9 exciting chase scenes at the Timonium Fairgrounds along with the Maryland State Fair. Good Luck
