Top 10 Baseball Distractions

Posted on 04 March 2014 by Glenn Clark

Honorable Mention: Women’s College Basketball-ACC Tournament: Maryland vs. Georgia Tech/Virginia/Boston College (Friday 8pm from Greensboro, NC live on Comcast SportsNet); Boxing: Canelo Alvarez vs. Alfredo Angulo (Saturday 9pm from Las Vegas live on Showtime PPV); Mixed Martial Arts: UFC Fight Night-Alexander Gustafsson vs. Jimi Manuwa (Saturday 3pm from London live on UFC Fight Pass); Tennis: ATP Tour WTA Tour BNP Paribas Open (Thursday-Monday 2pm from Indian Wells, CA live on Tennis Channel)

10. Jim Breuer (Friday 8pm 9:30 Club); Amy Schumer (Thursday 8pm Stephens Hall Towson University); Tony Woods (Thursday-Saturday Baltimore Comedy Factory); Maryland State Police Polar Bear Plunge (Saturday Sandy Point State Park); 300: Rise of an Empire“, “Mr. Peabody & Sherman” and “The Grand Budapest Hotel” out in theaters (Friday); 12 Years a Slave” and “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” available on Blu-Ray/DVD (Tuesday)

Matthew McConaughey won an Academy Award. Which means we can’t be far from Jim Breuer getting his.

Also Amy Schumer returns to her alma mater. She’s a really polite gal-you should introduce her to your mom.

9. Juicy J (Tuesday 8pm Rams Head Live); Stir Fried feat. John Popper/Cara Kelly & The Tall Tale (Saturday 8pm 8×10 Club); Stephen Kellogg (Wednesday 8pm Rams Head on Stage); Schoolboy Q (Friday 8pm & 11pm Fillmore Silver Spring); Vertical Horizon/Tonic/Dishwalla (Wednesday 7:30pm Howard Theatre); Bob Mould (Wednesday 7:30pm 9:30 Club); Bear Hands (Tuesday 8:30pm DC9); J. Roddy Walston & The Business (Tuesday 6:30pm U Street Music Hall); Lorde (Friday 8pm Echostage), David Guetta (Saturday & Sunday 9pm Echostage); Moody Blues (Monday 8pm Strathmore); Pharrell Williams “G I R L”, Drive-By Truckers “English Oceans” and Rick Ross “Mastermind” available in stores/on iTunes (Tuesday)

Have you thought about the fact that John Popper has been in your life for two decades now?

Yes, I still smile when I hear a Vertical Horizon tune. So sue me.

I’ve been playing the Bear Hands tune a lot as a rejoiner on the show recently. You know it from the times you’ve emailed to say “what’s the name of that song?”

J. Roddy is amazing. You should probably already know that.

Top 10 Baseball Distractions

Posted on 10 February 2014 by Glenn Clark

Honorable Mention: Tennis-ATP Tour U.S. National Indoor Tennis Championships (Friday 8pm Saturday 6pm Sunday 4pm from Memphis live on Tennis Channel); Women’s College Basketball: Maryland @ Duke (Monday 7pm from Durham, NC live on ESPN2); Soccer: Russia @ Team USA Women (Wednesday 7:30pm from Atlanta live on USSoccer.com)

I apparently made a mistake and included Cecily Strong last week instead of this week. “Oh no, more Cecily Strong in T10BD? That’s terrible” said no one in response.

O’Brien has actually had some nice highlights in his first year as a player as well.

9. Kanye West (Friday 8pm Baltimore Arena); JJ Grey & Mofro (Wednesday 8pm Rams Head Live); Johnny Winter Band (Saturday 8pm Sunday 7pm Rams Head on Stage); Rebelution (Thursday 9pm Fillmore Silver Spring), Umprhey’s McGee (Saturday & Sunday 8pm Fillmore Silver Spring); Dru Hill (Thursday 8pm Howard Theatre); Delta Rae (Saturday 7pm 9:30 Club); Eddie From Ohio (Friday-Sunday 7:30pm Birchmere); Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings (Tuesday 7pm Lincoln Theatre), Jennifer Nettles (Friday 7pm Lincoln Theatre), Bob Weir & Ratdog (Monday 6:30pm Lincoln Theatre); Lake Street Drive (Wednesday 7pm The Hamilton); Sister Sparrow & The Dirty Birds (Saturday 7:30pm Carroll Arts Center); Eric Church “The Outsiders” available in stores/on iTunes (Tuesday)

Dru Hill was so much more important to my childhood than I should ever admit.

Delta Rae is freaking wonderful. Here’s a night I saw them at Rams Head Live and FELL IN STINKING LOVE.

You might not be familiar with Lake Street Dive. But perhaps you’ve seen this wonderful video.

I saw Sister Sparrow in Brooklyn during Super Bowl week. They played Led Zeppelin IV in its’ entirety. I’m certainly glad they did.

College Football

“It was a stressful night as we were pretty much all in on FSU, needing them to win the game because of our tremendous exposure on our BCS Future Odds and on the Auburn money-line, and I have to say I slept well.  However, there’s no time to rest as I spent all morning calculating next year’s College Football Championship odds. It has been more of a challenge this time around due to some key players still undecided on the NFL Draft and also the new playoff system which is still a little obscure. Therefore, some teams who would normally stand little chance may be able to sneak in. I expect these odds to move over the next few days quite a bit based on those factors.”

Bovada improves Capitals’ Stanley Cup odds to 25/1

Posted on 03 December 2013 by WNST Staff

“Some may think that the Nets who have been a complete disappointment up to this point and even the Knicks for that matter should have longer odds to win it all, but this early in the season as despite bad as they are, the Nets and Knicks are only two and four games out of the playoffs respectively. With the talent these teams have, we have to be careful how much we over-adjust this early in the season.”

Fitz and the Tantrums is more fun than hanging out with your best girl. Unless you’re hanging out and listening to Fitz and the Tantrums.

The Head and The Heart are pleasant. Except when they fight. Jerks.

I’d ABSOLUTELY go see NIN again. So, somebody will take care of that for me, right?

Can I buy a ticket for the Meyerhoff show Saturday that allows me to pay less and not stay for the headliner?

Lots of new music this week. The Avett Brothers’ record is tremendous.

I haven’t heard all of The Head and the Heart’s record yet, but…this…

9. Das Best Oktoberfest (Saturday 12pm M&T Bank Stadium); The Gathering: Food Truck Rally (Friday 5pm Stratford University); Maryland Renaissance Festival (Saturday & Sunday RennFest Fairgrounds); Pacific Rim” and “The Heat” available on Blu-Ray/DVD (Tuesday); Carrie” out in theaters (Friday)

Oktoberfest is great for beer, beer maids and most notably-brats. I personally would like to spend Oktoberfest at Schmidt’s Sausage Haus in Columbus myself. They have a freaking all-you-can-eat sausage buffet, gang.

Can we just look at more pictures of brats?

Bovada gives Wizards 100/1 odds to win NBA title

Posted on 08 October 2013 by WNST Staff

Courtesy of Bovada, (www.Bovada.lv, Twitter: @BovadaLV).

“As MLB is winding down we have seen increased activity on our NBA future odds mainly for the Championship. While Miami is an overwhelming favorite once again for the third straight year entering the season, with such short odds (2/1) we don’t see too much money on them at this point. Teams like the Clippers (Down from 14-1 to 9-1), the Bulls (Down from 10-1 to 8-1) and the Pacers (Down from 12-1 to 10-1) have been getting bet heavily, while a team like the aged Spurs have drifted from 10-1 to 14-1 and are hardly taking any action.”

“Al’s all-around game and reputation as a leader make him a solid fit with our team,” said Grunfeld. “He will give us additional depth and experience in the frontcourt, the ability to stretch defenses and another proven veteran in the locker room.”

In 15 seasons with Indiana, Atlanta, Golden State, New York, Denver and Orlando, Harrington has appeared in 947 career regular season games (445 starts) while averaging 13.7 points, 5.7 rebounds and 1.7 assists in 29.0 minutes per contest. He has shot .445 (4,946-11,111) from the field, .352 (943-2,678) from three-point range and recorded 103 career double-doubles. During the 2011-12 season, Harrington averaged 14.2 points and 6.1 rebounds in 64 games with Denver. The former first round pick has played in 48 career postseason games, averaging 8.0 points and 4.5 rebounds in 22.2 minutes per contest. Harrington’s most productive season came during the 2008-09 campaign where he averaged a career-best 20.1 points and 6.2 rebounds in 73 games with Golden State (5) and New York (68). He was originally selected by Indiana with the 25th overall pick in the 1998 NBA Draft out of St. Patrick’s High School in Elizabeth, N.J.

Harrington was waived by Orlando on August 2, 2013. The Magic originally acquired the veteran forward from Denver on August 10, 2012, as part of a four-team, 12-player deal. He played in 10 games with the Magic last season averaging 5.1 points, 2.7 rebounds and 1.0 assists in 11.9 minutes per contest after missing the first 54 games of the season recovering from a right knee meniscus repair and ensuing staph infection.
