Terps excited for rivalry battle in NFL stadium Saturday

Posted on 18 September 2013 by WNST Staff

Quarterback C.J. Brown

On the Maryland-West Virginia rivalry:

“It’s another big game for us; we get to go play in an NFL stadium against another good team. In the past, it’s been a pretty big rivalry, but from my point of view it’s just another game; we’re just going to look at it as an opportunity to go 4-0 and get another win closer to a bowl game.”

On what they have to do to beat West Virginia:

“We have to play our game. I think they’re a good team, they’re going to come out and make plays, and they’re going to be a force. We’ve played them well the past couple years that I’ve been here. We have to go in there and execute, come out and play our game and not have the turnovers we had last game; execute and put touchdowns on the board”

On the West Virginia defense:

“There aren’t too many concerns, but they are going to pressure.  We just have to go out and have a good week of practice, execute what we have to do and go out there on Saturday and play well.”

Offensive lineman Sal Conaboy

On the offensive line’s chemistry:

“There are a lot of personalities in that unit and I think that plays a big part in it. Some guys are a little quieter, but some guys really are outgoing and really like to communicate a lot so I think that is good for us to have. Off the field too, we really click very well.”

On his mindset this season:

“I’ve been trying to work on all aspects of being a leader. I think that helps me to be able to go out there and have to communicate and to just get everyone on the same page. I don’t think I’m changing anything, just trying to develop a little more.”

On playing at M&T Bank Stadium:

“I think everyone is a little excited about that. Actually, my first game (Navy, 9/6/10) was there. I’m excited to go back there to play. With that game, I just remember the whole time it was exciting, from the time we ran out of the tunnel to the very last snap.”

Linebacker Yannik Cudjoe-Virgil

On possibly tying last year’s win total with victory against West Virginia:

“It’s definitely going to be huge, you know we haven’t been 3-0 since 2001, so this is a big thing for us. We are just going to take it week-by-week and that’s all we can do”

On what the West Virginia-Maryland rivalry means:

“It’s going to be my first West Virginia game so I don’t really know too much about it. All I’ve heard is ‘The Battle of the Border’. Last year, when I traveled myself to the game, it got a little heated on the field. It’s going to be a big game, especially at M&T Bank Stadium. It’s just going to be a big game for a whole bunch of guys”

On if the attitude of the team has been different so far this week:

“Just overall excitement to get another win and to just prove to other people and prove to this conference that we’re really trying to do some good things this year.  We just go out every day with the mentality to get better.”

Tight End Dave Stinebaugh

On the rivalry with West Virginia:

“It’s definitely a good rivalry; we’ve played them on and off the past couple years and it’s always good especially when a lot of the guys around here know someone from West Virginia. So it’s always a good thing for them, right across the border.”

On missed opportunities for the offense at Connecticut:

“We definitely left some opportunities out there, it’s definitely something we’re not happy about, but its things we can fix. We pride ourselves on offense as going out there and fixing the little things and trying to get this thing running on all cylinders; be the best we can be.”

Linebacker Marcus Whitfield

On his improved pass rush this season:

“I worked out over the offseason with the team, went through the drills, had a great offseason. Definitely liked working with the team on the defensive scheme. I feel like in my position I know all of what goes on all around me; when coaches put me in a position to make a play I make the play.”

On the reception for the team around campus

“People are out there noticing us more; it feels good to have support from the fans. They definitely turn out to the games to come out to support us. It just feels good to be out there doing what we do best.”
