8. College Football: CAA Media Day (Wednesday 9am M&T Bank Stadium)
If I was CAA commissioner Tom Yeager (or any other FCS league commish), I’d open my Media Day press conference like this…
“Ask me about the teams in my league that are under investigation by the NCAA. No? Okay, moving on then…”
In fact, I’d hang a picture of Cam Newton and Terrelle Pryor behind me when I did it.
But I’ve always been the type to try to turn real life into pro wrestling, so maybe I’m not the best person for advice in this situation…
7. NASCAR Pennsylvania 500 (Sunday 1pm from Tunkhannock Township, PA live on ESPN)
Whatever happens at Pocono Raceway Sunday, NOTHING will be cooler than the pre-race invocation given by Pastor Joe Nelms last week at the Nationwide Series stop in Nashville. This was AWESOME…
6. Golf: PGA Tour Greenbrier Classic (Thursday & Friday 3pm live on Golf Channel, Saturday & Sunday 3pm live on CBS. All golf from White Sulphur Springs, WV); LPGA Tour Women’s British Open/Open Championship (Thursday & Friday 9am Saturday 10am Sunday 8:45am from Carnoustie, Scotland live on ESPN); Champions Tour US Senior Open (Thursday & Friday 3pm live on ESPN, Saturday & Sunday 3pm live on NBC)
If you look up “oxy moron” at Dictionary.com, I’m pretty sure one of the examples is…
“A golf tournament in West Virginia.”
Seriously, if Nick Watney wins the event, does he get a crystal trophy or do they just give him one of these?
5. Action Sports: X Games 17 (Thursday-Sunday from Los Angeles live on ESPN/ESPN2/ABC/ESPN3.com/XGames.com)
Did anyone watch any of the coverage of the Dew Tour from Ocean City over the weekend? In between raindrops, it was pretty cool to see O.C. on NBC and hear Bucky Lasek talk about Jolly Rogers and Fisher’s Popcorn.
Of course, I would have liked to have gone to the event-but I couldn’t get a room in OC for less than $1,000. That’s another story though.
As far as the X Games’ “Roller Buffalo” competition is concerned, I don’t have high hopes for Johnny Knoxville…
