8. Golf: PGA Tour FedEx Cup Playoffs Deutsche Bank Championship (Friday & Saturday 3pm live on Golf Channel Sunday 1pm live on Golf Channel 3pm live on NBC Monday 12pm live on Golf Channel 3pm live on NBC. All golf from Norton, MA)

You know how we like to say that preseason games don’t matter, but the third preseason game is the closest one will come to mattering?

The golf “playoffs” are sorta like that. Tournaments after the PGA Championship really don’t matter, but the playoff events come the closest-mostly because there’s a BOATLOAD of money involved.

Not that this is much more interesting than the golf playoffs, but golfer Jim Furyk was holding a press conference when last week’s earthquake hit. Here’s his (lack of) reaction, remixed with some movie clips by a website called Tauntr.

(I wish I could make this more interesting. I really do.)

7. Soccer: Costa Rica @ Team USA (Friday 8pm from Carson, CA live on ESPN2/

In the MLS, Former Terrapins star Graham Zusi recently won MLS Player of the Week and MLS Goal of the Week. For some reason, it was thought appropriate to put Mario Kart music behind his goal…

6. High School Football: I-95 Kickoff Classic-Mt. St. Joe vs. Friendship Academy DC (Thursday 5pm Bulldog Stadium Bowie State), St. John’s DC vs. Calvert Hall (Thursday 7:30pm Bulldog Stadium), Henry H. Wise vs. Franklin (Friday 5pm Hughes Stadium Morgan State), Gilman vs. Oscar Smith (Friday 7:30pm Hughes Stadium), Archbishop Curley vs. Patterson (Saturday 10:45am Hughes Stadium), DeMatha vs. Loyola (Saturday 1:45pm Hughes Stadium), Westlake vs. Urbana (Saturday 4:45pm Hughes Stadium), Dunbar DC vs. Dunbar Baltimore (Saturday 7:45pm Hughes Stadium); Perry Hall @ St. Paul’s (Friday 4pm)

I start this portion of T10BD by saying “GO GATORS!”

I follow it up by saying I’m glad we’re back to the start of high school and college football this weekend. We gotta get these kids off the streets where all they ever do is ruin live shots on The Weather Channel and WJZ…

5. Tennis: US Open Series ATP Tour & WTA Tour US Open (Tuesday-Friday 11am live on Tennis Channel 1pm & 7pm live on ESPN2 Saturday-Monday 11am live on CBS 7pm live on Tennis Channel)

Here’s something I just realized…we’re halfway through T10BD and I haven’t posted a single picture of an attractive young lady. That will have to end here…

Caroline Wozniacki is officially my pick to win in Flushing Meadows. And if she doesn’t, she’ll probably still be more interesting than whoever does. I know she’s dating someone famous but I don’t care. He doesn’t look like that.

I’m picking Novak Djokovic to win on the men’s side. I know, you can’t believe I would go out on a limb like that. They call me a risk-taker in almost every circle.
