Top 10 Baseball Distractions

October 11, 2011 | Glenn Clark

8. Auto Racing: NASCAR Bank of America 500 (Saturday 7:30pm from Charlotte live on ABC); IndyCar Series IZOD IndyCar World Championships at Las Vegas (Sunday 3pm from Las Vegas live on ABC)

You’re going to struggle to believe this, but the locations of this weekend’s big races are EQUALLY amongst my favorite locales on the face of the planet.

Sure, Vegas has the likes of Holly Madison, Laura Croft and Angel Porrino…

But Charlotte has the likes of Bojangles and Bo-Berry biscuits…

I appreciate both things equally.

7. Pro Wrestling: TNA Bound For Glory (Sunday 8pm from Philadelphia live on Pay-Per-View)

One of the main event matches at Bound For Glory is Kurt Angle-Bobby Roode. The other is Hulk Hogan-Sting. I feel like there’s at least a CHANCE this one lasts longer than when the title match the two had at Halloween Havoc in 1999…

6. Soccer: Ecuador @ Team USA (Tuesday 7pm from Harrison, NJ live on ESPN2/ESPN3.com); MLS-DC United @ Vancouver Whitecaps (Wednesday 10pm from Vancouver live on Comcast SportsNet), Chicago Fire @ DC United (Saturday 7:30pm RFK Stadium); College Soccer: Adelphi @ Maryland (Tuesday 7:30pm Ludwig Field), Duke @ Maryland (Friday 7pm Ludwig Field); New Hampshire @ UMBC (Friday 7pm Retriever Soccer Park); Rider @ Loyola (Saturday 7pm Ridley Athletic Complex); Old Dominion @ Towson (Saturday 1pm Tiger Soccer Complex)

I’d tell you something about Ecuador if there was something to tell you about Ecuador. (Now I’m worried that making fun of them will be a preamble to us losing to them.)

Instead, with Duke headed to College Park I figured it would offer me my first opportunity of the school year to go here…

5. NHL: Washington Capitals @ Pittsburgh Penguins (Thursday 7pm from Pittsburgh live on NHL Network/Comcast SportsNet), Ottawa Senators @ Washington Capitals (Saturday 7pm from Verizon Center live on Comcast SportsNet)

As you probably already know I’m not really a fan of the Caps myself. They play in Washington. That’s where the Redskins play. That being said, seeing anyone from the Steel City lose is something I can get behind. I hope Washington fans will consider using this during the week…
