Top 10 Baseball Distractions

March 02, 2010 | Glenn Clark

Honorable MentionWomen’s College Basketball-ACC Tournament: North Carolina vs. Maryland (Thursday 3pm from Greensboro live on Comcast SportsNet); NASCAR Kobalt Tools 500 (Sunday 1pm from Atlanta live on FOX); Soccer: Philadelphia KiXX @ Baltimore Blast (Friday 7:35pm from 1st Mariner Arena live on, Monterrey La Raza @ Baltimore Blast (Saturday 7:35pm from 1st Mariner Arena live on; Golf: PGA Tour Honda Classic (Thursday & Friday 3pm live on Golf Channel, Saturday & Sunday 3pm live on NBC. All thrilling golf action from Palm Beach, FL) Champions Tour Toshiba Classic (Friday & Saturday 6:30pm, Sunday 7pm from Newport Bach, CA live on Golf Channel)

10. Muse & Silversun Pickups (Wednesday 7:30pm 1st Mariner Arena), Jay-Z & Young Jeezy (Wednesday 7pm Verizon Center), Jamie Cullum (Sunday 7pm 9:30 Club), Alice In Chains (Wednesday 8pm DAR Constitution Hall)

Look, if I didn’t have anywhere else to be (see: College Park), I’d ABSOLUTELY be at Muse Wednesday night. Because Muse KICKS.ASS.

Okay….OR I’d be at Verizon Center. Because Jay-Z KICKS.ASS.

I think I’m gonna pass on Jamie Cullum, but he ain’t too bad himself…

9. Boxing: Jimmy Lange vs. Chase “The White Tiger” Shields (Saturday 7:30pm Patriot Center), ShoBox: Vic Darchinyan vs. Rodrigo Guerrero (Saturday 9pm from Rancho Mirage, CA live on Showtime)

On top of that, there’s press conference at Lincoln Theatre Wednesday in DC as part of the Floyd Mayweather-Shane Mosley media tour. Following the press conference, there’s a lunch at Ben’s Chili Bowl. This now allows me a great excuse to post pictures of Ben’s Chili Bowl food….

That’ll do. Don’t bother me for a while.

8. Pro Wrestling: TNA iMPACT! moves to Monday Nights (Monday 9pm from Orlando live on SpikeTV)

It’s been a long time since we’ve seen “Monday Night Wars” like we did between WWE and WCW in the 90’s. Having checked out TNA once or twice, I’m comfortable thinking that they won’t be able to compete. That being said, there is no doubt that THIS man is one of the greatest men in the history of the world…..

And that I’m interested in finding out much more about whoever Madison Rayne is…..

7. Tennis: Davis Cup-Team USA @ Serbia (Friday 10am, Saturday 8am, Sunday 9am from Belgrade live on Tennis Channel)

It’s not that I don’t think the Americans have a chance…I just really wonder who on their team is supposed to beat Novak Djokovic. I only notice the names John Isner and Sam Querrey….clearly they must be missing someone, because neither of those guys can get the job done. Maybe I’m missing something. Maybe this guy is on the team…..

(Edit from GMC: Yeah, even I’m a little surprised I went with a Mal Washington joke. Is anyone else interested in preparing material for me?)

6. NBA: Wizards @ Bucks (Wednesday 8pm from Milwaukee live on Comcast SportsNet PLUS), Bucks @ Wizards (Friday 7pm from Verizon Center live on Comcast SportsNet), Wizards @ Celtics (Sunday 8pm from Boston live on Comcast SportsNet & ESPN)

Are the ‘Zards fun to watch? No. Was this an awesome dunk from Nick Young? Yes.

5. Mixed Martial Arts: WEC Bowles vs. Cruz (Saturday 10pm from Columbus, OH live on VERSUS)

Of course, this event is the highlight of the “Arnold Sports Festival” in Columbus. Which reminds me that I’m thankful to live in a country where a weekend could be named after this man….

Most of the women walking around Columbus this weekend will probably look like this….

I’m very confused about what this all means….

4. NHL: Capitals @ Sabres (Wednesday 7pm from Buffalo live on VERSUS & Comcast SportsNet), Lightning @ Capitals (Thursday 7pm from Verizon Center live on NHL Network & Comcast SportsNet), Rangers @ Capitals (Saturday 7pm from Verizon Center live on Comcast SportsNet), Stars @ Capitals (Monday 7pm from Verizon Center liev on VERSUS)

I’m not a Caps fan and I’m not REALLY a hockey guy, but if Washington would celebrate their wins the same way the Team Canada women do, I’d be all in….

3. Konica Minolta Face-Off Classic: Maryland vs. Duke (11am live on ESPNU), Princeton vs. Johns Hopkins (1:30pm live on ESPNU), Notre Dame vs. Loyola (4pm live on AM1570 WNST-All games Saturday at M&T Bank Stadium); College Lacrosse: Bucknell @ Navy (Saturday 3pm from Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium live on CBS College Sports), North Carolina @ UMBC (Saturday 12pm from UMBC Stadium live on WMAR 2, tape delayed on ESPNU), RIT @ Stevenson (Wednesday 3:30pm Caves Athletic Complex), Western New England @ Stevenson (Sunday 1pm Caves Athletic Complex)

That’s right…the big game….Maryland-Duke…good stuff. Yes, even in lacrosse.

And while I don’t have any PARTICULAR allegiances to the Greyhounds-I certainly would if I were going to the games Saturday (I’ll be at John Paul Jones Arena instead). In fact, I’d probably wear this hat….

2. NFL Free Agency Begins (Friday 12am)

The more I think about this….the more I want this to happen…..

1. College Basketball: Duke @ Maryland (Wednesday 9am from Comcast Center live on ESPN), Maryland @ Virginia (Saturday 1:30pm from Charlottesville live on Raycom-WNUV 54 locally); Coppin State @ Morgan State (Thursday 7:30pm Hill Field House); CAA Tournament 1st Round: Towson vs. UNC-Wilmington (Friday 12pm from Richmond streamed live at; America East Tournament quarterfinal: UMBC vs. Vermont (Saturday 6pm from West Hartford, Conn streamed live at AmericaEast.TV); MAAC Tournament 1st round: Loyola vs. Manhattan (Friday 7:30pm from Albany streamed live at

Do me a favor. Go to Search “Duke University.” Then search “redick.” It doesn’t get much better.

It’s good to have this game be the most important game in the ACC all season again….

Flexing my mic muscles since 1983….
