Coppin announces 2013-2014 basketball schedule

BALTIMORE – Coppin State men’s basketball head coach Ron “Fang” Mitchell recently announced the Eagles 2013-14 schedule which features five games against NCAA Tournament teams from last season and 12 home games including games versus UMBC, Towson and Morgan State.

The Eagles schedule includes matchups with California, Gonzaga, Akron, North Carolina A&T and last season’s NCAA championship runner-up Michigan.

Coppin State’s home schedule includes dates with Wagner, UMBC, Towson and Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference rival Morgan State.

The Eagles will also participate in the British Virgin Islands Tropical Shootout in Tortola, British Virgin Islands which features Southern Mississippi, Arkansas-Little Rock, Jacksonville State and Coppin State.

The Eagles will open the season on the West coast against California on Nov. 8 and at Oregon State on Nov. 10.

Coppin State then opens the home portion of its schedule against Wagner on Nov. 18 followed by a home contest with Ohio Valley on Nov. 25.

The Eagles then hit the road for back-to-back games against Michigan and Gonzaga. CSU visits Michigan on Nov. 29 and then travels to Spokane, Wash., to face the Bulldogs on Dec. 1.

Coppin State opens the MEAC portion of its schedule on the road at Delaware State on Dec. 7 in Dover, Del.

The Eagles lone December game is against local rival UMBC on Dec. 11 at 7:30 p.m. in the Physical Education Complex.

Coppin State travels to Richmond to face the Spiders on Dec. 14 before participating in the BVI Tropical Shootout on Dec. 20-21.

The Eagles close out December with road games at Toledo on Dec. 28 and at Akron on Dec. 31.

Coppin State welcomes Towson to the PEC on Jan. 4, which is the first of a three-game homestand. The Eagles will play Savannah State on Jan. 11 and South Carolina State on Jan. 13 in the PEC.

The Eagles will host the Bears of Morgan State on Feb. 10 at 7:30 p.m. in the PEC in the first of a home-and-home battle.

Coppin State will host Maryland Eastern Shore on March 1 at 4 p.m. in its homecoming game.

The MEAC Tournament will be held March 10-15 at the Norfolk Scope Arena in Norfolk, Va.
