NORFOLK, Va. — Coppin State senior Michael Murray was named to the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Preseason All-Conference First Team and the Eagles were selected to finish ninth in the preseason poll as voted upon by the league’s head coaches and sports information directors and announced by the conference office on Monday.
Murray, who is the Eagles leading returning scorer and rebounder, averaged 12.4 points and a conference-leading 8.9 rebounds per game last season. He was joined on the first team by Justin Black of Morgan State, Pendarvis Williams of Norfolk State, Jeremy Ingram of North Carolina Central and Matthew Hezikiah of South Carolina State.
Coppin State was selected to finish ninth in the preseason poll after receiving 236 points. Norfolk State received 14 first-place votes and finished first in the preseason poll, while Morgan State earned five first-place votes and 555 points to finish second in the voting.
The All-MEAC preseason second team was comprised of Lamont Middleton and Bruce Beckford of North Carolina A&T, Jamie Adams of Florida A&M, Du’Vaugh Maxwell of Hampton and Ian Chiles of Morgan State.
Malcolm Hawkins, Rashid Gaston and Brandon Goode of Norfolk State, Emauel Chapman of North Carolina Central, Anthony Hubbard of Morgan State and Troy Snyder of Maryland Eastern Shore were named to the third team.
Norfolk State’s Williams was named the Preseason Player of the Year.
Coppin State will open the 2013-14 season on Friday (Nov. 8) at California.
