Coppin Forwards Wiens, Williams Honored by MEAC

NORFOLK, Va. — Coppin State’s Logan Wiens was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Player of the Week, while Antonio Williams was named the Defensive Player of the Week the league announced on Monday.

Wiens averaged 23.0 points and 4.0 rebounds per game in leading the Eagles to a road victory over South Carolina State and a home win over Hampton. Wiens scored a career-high 23 points on 9-of-11 shooting from the floor in an 82-61 win at South Carolina State and then tied his career-high with 23 points in an 83-66 victory over Hampton.

He shot 72.7 percent from the floor in the two games, including 61.6 percent from the three-point line, and made all six of his free throw attempts.

Williams earned his second career Defensive Player of the Week honor on the strength of his 21-rebound performance against Hampton. The 21 rebounds is a conference high this season and ranks fifth in Coppin State history.

He averaged 9.0 points and 12.5 rebounds per outing in the two games and also averaged 2.0 assists.

Ricky Johnson of Bethune-Cookman was named the conference Rookie of the Week.

Coppin hosts Norfolk State Monday at 7:30pm at the Coppin State Physical Education Complex in a Martin Luther King Day showdown.
