Coppin Guards Gallo, Cephas Honored By MEAC

NORFOLK, Va. — Coppin State senior Tony Gallo was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Player of the Week, while freshman Taariq Cephas was named the Rookie of the Week the league announced on Monday.

The duo helped to lead Coppin State to a 71-57 victory over Towson on Wednesday.

Gallo scored a career-high 27 points to lead the Eagles. He made 6-of-15 three-point attempts and was 7-of-9 from the free throw line. He also had four assists, two rebounds and a steal.

Cephas scored 19 points by making 5-of-8 shots from the floor, which included a 3-of-5 shooting performance from the three-point line. He was 6-of-7 from the free throw line in posting his second-highest point total of the season. He added five assists, three steals and two rebounds.

Gallo won the Player of the Week award for the second time in his career, while Cephas earned his second Rookie of the Week honor.

Kevin Thompson of Morgan State was named the Defensive Player of the Week.
