Coppin State G Cephas Named MEAC Rookie of the Week

NORFOLK, Va. — Coppin State freshman Taariq Cephas has been named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week the conference office announced on Monday.

Cephas scored a career-high 24 points leading Coppin State to a 77-68 non-conference victory over West Virginia Tech on Saturday in the Eagles only game of the week.

The Clinton, Md., native finished the game 7-of-11 from the floor, including making 6-of-8 from the three-point line, in helping the Eagles snap a four-game losing skid.

He also made 4-of-6 from the free throw line and added three assits, two steals and a rebound in 39 minutes of action.

Dominique Sutton of North Carolina Central was named the Player of the Week, while Kendall Gray of Delaware State earned Defensive Player of the Week honors.

Coppin returns to action Monday night when they host Rio Grande at the Coppin State Physical Education Complex.
