Dan Shaughnessy: Why aren’t Red Sox on top in AL East?

Hall of Fame baseball writer Dan Shaughnessy joined Nestor Aparicio this week to discuss the Red Sox and the American League East pennant race as the Red Sox come to Charm City to battle the Orioles.

“It’s been kind of a thrill ride with this team,” Shaughnessy said. “They’re fun to watch, obviously with this offense, and they have explosions like we saw yesterday with Betts with 3 homers in the first 5 innings, and 16-1 after five innings. It’s just crazy.”

Dan continued to give his thoughts on the Red Sox offense, and wondered why the unit hasn’t contributed to a better overall record.

“They had a lot of pin-ball numbers back in April and May and they have the second best run differential in the American League. They have scored more runs than any team in baseball, so my question is why aren’t they five or six games ahead?”
