#12 – Larry Stewart, Coppin State

Take a look RIGHT HERE at the summary of Larry Stewart’s impact on Coppin State.

When Coppin State really started to get good in the NCAA, he was the man who helped kick-start the resurgence.

No one in these parts will ever forget Coppin’s monumental upset of Maryland at Cole Field House in 1989 and then several years later the Eagles earned national prominence with that NCAA tournament upset of South Carolina.  It all started when Larry Stewart showed up and pointed Fang’s Gang in the right direction.

Great list. I would offer a few other names for an honorable mention list: Roger Dickens (TSU), Pat McKinley (TSU), Brian Matthews (TSU), Ronald Smith (U of B), Tony Carter (Coppin St), Yarborough Roberts (Morgan St), and Teddy Jones (U of B).

Excellent List and research, Drew. Struck a chord of many memories of greatness. My only honorable mention would be, Maurice “Mo” Cannon (Loyola College).
