This will be one of the most important editions of DMD you’ll read all year.
It’s golf tournament time. And I need your help on October 14.
I’ve been running the WNST Charity Golf Outing for nearly a decade now and each year I always vow to make THIS one the biggest and best of them all. Some years I have and other years I’ve fallen short, but the goal is always the same: Try and do more this year than we did last year.
The 2012 event benefitted the Matt Birk Foundation and we were able to donate nearly $5,000 to Matt’s outstanding program and he, in turn, used that money to buy books and learning materials for three Baltimore city schools that were in dire need of upgrades in those areas.
Over the years, we’ve donated nearly $100,000 in total to places and people like: The Packard Center for ALS research at Johns Hopkins Hospital, the Fuel Fund of Maryland, the Erinn McCarthy Scholarship Fund at Maryvale, Casey Cares Foundation and the ALS Association of Maryland.
We’ve taken great pride in giving money back to Baltimore in each of the eight previous tournaments. And the connection is always the same — the charity we select to has to use the money in Baltimore and/or Maryland.
This year’s recipient (which I will announce next week) will use our charitable contribution in our own backyard. That’s the most important part of the WNST Charity Golf Outing. The money stays here, in our community. Someone you know might benefit from it.
So, mark down the date of Monday, October 14, 2013. Work a half-day and join us for a great afternoon of fun, fellowship and golf starting at 1pm.
I’m very excited to make a major announcement about this year’s event — It’s going to take place at Mountain Branch in Joppa. In fact, we’re actually returning to Mountain Branch, because Years 1-through-5 were held there.
That’s obviously good news! Mountain Branch is one of Maryland’s premier golf/dining destinations and – full confession here – as a member at MB since 2001, I can honestly say this spring/summer is the best condition I’ve ever seen the course in…so you’re in for a real treat in October.
More good news — the outstanding staff at MB has made it possible for this year’s event to have a LOWER COST than the 2012 tournament. In other words, the price is going DOWN. Where, in 2013, does anything go down in price?
The 2013 contribution will be $125 per-player, which includes golf, carts, a wild putting contest, the chance to win a car from Koons Ford of Security Blvd, plus awards and dinner at Mountain Branch afterwards.
I’m in the process of putting together a menu of items that are available for sponsorship. They range in price from $150 to $2,000. The event needs your support either with a foursome or by taking advantange of those sponsorship opportunities.
By listening to the station or reading this web-site every day, you’re in the WNST family. Some of you have taken trips with us, gone to the Super Bowl with us and helped me with various other charitable endeavors like our Holiday Coat Drive. None of those things happen without your involvement. The 9th annual WNST Charity Golf Outing is no different. I need your involvement and participation and we’ll make this thing better than ever!
