QUOTES – MARYLAND HEAD COACH RANDY EDSALL

Wake Forest 34, Maryland 10

Opening statement…

“We didn’t get it done today, as everybody knows. I tried to tell our team that we were going to get their best effort. It was their homecoming, coming off that win (NC State) and plus with our situation in the ACC. But we didn’t come out and match their intensity early on. That’s something that was very disappointing.”

On the status of Deon Long and Stefon Diggs…

“It’s not good. Deon broke his tibia and fibula, both bones in the lower leg. He’s got to go home tonight and probably have surgery later tonight when we get home. Stefon fractured his fibula so there will probably be surgery sometime this week for him.”

On the reaction to the injuries to Long and Diggs…

“It’s unfortunate. I feel bad for both those guys. We got to make sure we move forward. What has to happen is we have to have guys step up and guys go out there and play with the kind of intensity that you have to play with for 60 minutes. We didn’t get that today. I’ve got to do a better job in making sure they listen to me rather than listen to everyone outside of the program and trying to congratulate them on stuff we haven’t even accomplished yet. That’s something that I tried to work hard on this week and we’ll continue to work on it each and every day through the rest of the season. We’ll get to where we want to go.”

On replacing quarterback C.J. Brown with Caleb Rowe in the second half…
“I just felt that things that I saw, it was the best thing for our team to do to try and move the ball in the second half.”

On the play of Caleb Rowe…

“I thought he did some good things and I thought there were some things that he could of done a little bit better. I thought there were some situations there, again, he had to manage, we have 1st-and-10 on the 15 and we got to understand we don’t need a touchdown on the throw. We got to take what the defense gives us and execute. And that’s just something we have to continue to work on and continue to coach.”
