Former Xavier G/F Wells picks Maryland

Former Xavier G/F Dezmine “Dez” Wells announced his decision to transfer to Maryland on Twitter Tuesday, posting the following message of explanation.

As noted, Wells selected Maryland ahead of Memphis & Oregon and also visited Kentucky last week. His eligibility for 2012-2013 remains in question as he will seek a waiver to not have to sit out a season, but CBSSports.com’s Jeff Goodman reported it “unlikely” that the NCAA would allow the exemption. If not, Wells would have three years of eligibility starting in 2013-2014.

Wells was expelled from Xavier after allegations of sexual assault despite prosecutors choosing not to charge him in the case. Wells averaged 9.8 points per game and 4.9 rebounds per game for the Musketeers as a freshman. He was also involved in last season’s December 10 brawl during XU’s game against Cincinnati, receiving a suspension for his role in the fight.

YES!!! Now, hopefully justice prevails and he’s allowed to play this season after having been run off campus by Xavier before due process.
