Friday Morning’s Crabs and Beer

August 01, 2008 | Glenn Clark

I’ve already shared all of my thoughts about the Trade Deadline over the last few days, so I won’t bore you with more. I WILL say that I hope the Birds can find a way to get rid of some salaries in the next month; as I wouldn’t be sad if Jay Payton, Chad Bradford, Jamie Walker etc. all left for ANYTHING in return.

The Daniel Cabrera suspension was automatic. When the umpire decided Cabrera threw at A-Rod; right or wrong, a suspension was coming. And those who say that Cabrera’s reputation hurt him; you’re absolutely right. That’s the thing about reputations…

Let’s see what everyone else has to say….

SOME QUICK THOUGHTS:

-I think everyone can agree that Haruki Nakamura has been one of the nicest surprises thus far in Camp. I saw him last week, and thought he looked like he had a fire to play football. He’s the type of guy that fits in well with this defense, and I hope he doesn’t lose steam as we move towards Sept. 7.

-I am actually very interested in seeing what happens with Big Brown on Sunday. With so much controversy surrounding Rick Dutrow right now, I think he NEEDS Big Brown to perform like a Champion. If Big Brown comes out flat, the entire steroids controversy will be discussed at an even greater length.

Talk to you Monday.
