Westtown (Pennsylania) SF Jared Nickens committed to the University of Maryland Saturday night, as was reported earlier Sunday by InsideMDSports.com.

Nickens is ranked as either a four star or three star prospect by most recruiting analysts. He is a 6’6″ solid outside shooter who averaged 16 points per game last season after spending his first three years at St. Patrick’s (New Jersey).

Nickens will join coach Mark Turgeon and the Terrapins in 2014 along with two already-committed Top 100 prospects in Dion Wiley and Melo Trimble. Current Terps guards/wings with eligibility still remaining at that time will include Dez Wells (one year), Nick Faust (one year), Jake Layman (two years) and Seth Allen (two years). Incoming Michigan transfer Evan Smotrycz is a combo forward that will have one year of eligibility left at that point, incoming freshman guard Roddy Peters would have three years of eligibility left at that point.

According to the IMS report, Nickens committed while on a visit in College Park where he was hosted by Wells. He chose Maryland over offers from Miami, Wake Forest, Oklahoma, Temple, Seton Hall, Dayton, Rutgers, Providence and Oregon State.
