7. Jim O’Brien

O’Brien came with a strong push from a few listeners/readers. As I considered where players like Burns and (still to come) Walt Williams should be on this list, I was reminded that O’Brien played an incredibly similar role as those players for Lefty Driesell.

O’Brien was Driesell’s first major recruit and helped lead the team to the first major upset of the era, beating South Carolina 31-30 in overtime in a game they lead 4-3 at the half.

Yeah, 4-3.
