Jameel McClain re-signs with Ravens on three-year contract

March 23, 2012 | Ryan Chell

When most people in the workplace on a Friday are slowing down readying for the weekend, the Baltimore Ravens were working on preparing themselves for next season.

Hour after signing Bears FA CB Corey Graham and re-signing Brendon Ayanbadejo to bolster their special teams, the Ravens filled another need on defense by re-signing linebacker Jameel McClain to a three-year contract.

McClain has agreed in principle to the contract, and the signing of McClain-along with the other two signings-will be announced today at a press conference in Owings Mills at 3PM.

McClain, who was signed as a rookie free agent out of Syracuse in 2008, made strides this season playing the middle linebacker position next to Ray Lewis.

In 2011 in 16 games of action, McClain registered 84 tackles with one sack and one interception. McClain clearly moved ahead of fellow linebacker Dannell Ellerbe to get playing time, and his play this year did have some other teams, including the Denver Broncos, interested in his services as a free agent this off-season.
