Maryland’s offensive coordinator will be moved to an administrative role in the department

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Offensive coordinator Gary Crowton will not return to the Maryland football staff in 2012, head coach Randy Edsall announced Friday.

Crowton, who was hired in January, has agreed to transition into a non-coaching administrative role within the athletics department effective immediately. The terms of the new position can be for up to three months at a maximum salary of $125,000.

“We thank Gary for his service and wish him well in this new role and beyond,” Edsall said.

Crowton came to Maryland from LSU, where he served as offensive coordinator for four seasons (2007-10).

He was also an offensive coordinator with the Chicago Bears (1999-00) and the University of Oregon (2005-06).

Crowton was a head coach at Louisiana Tech (1996-98) and BYU (2001-04).
