COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The Maryland women’s basketball team earned a No. 5 seed in the NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament Monday night. The Terrapins (25-7) will travel to Raleigh, NC for a matchup with No. 12 Princeton at noon on Friday in the first round.
The Terps will take on the 12th-seeded Princeton Tigers at noon, airing live on ESPN2, with the fourth-seeded NC State Wolfpack matching up with the 13th-seeded Elon Phoenix after.
“You’d love stay home and host in front of our great fans but I love the fact that our fans can get to this site and we’ve been equally good at home and on the road,” said head coach Brenda Frese. “We talked about and still own up to the idea that you control your own destiny. This group has been resilient all year. I think that prepares us for what’s out there ahead.”
Tickets will go on sale at 8:30 am on Tuesday, March 13. Seating will be assigned by Terpoint Priority order. Ticket availability for 1st and 2nd rounds will be confirmed by email by 2pm on Wednesday, March 14. Visit umterps.com or call the Terrapin Ticket Office at 1-800-IM-A-TERP.
All games will be televised on the ESPN family of networks, WatchESPN.com and the Watch ESPN app.
The Terrapins are in the Kansas City region.
Maryland advanced to its fourth straight Big Ten Tournament championship game earlier this month. The Terps clinched their eighth straight NCAA Tournament bid and 14th in head coach Brenda Frese’s 16 years at Maryland.
This marks Maryland’s 26th appearance in the NCAA Tournament. The Terrapins are 44-24 (.647) all-time in the NCAA Tournament and 32-12 (.727) under Frese. She’s led the Terrapins to eight Sweet Sixteens, six Elite Eights, three Final Fours and the 2006 NCAA title.
