COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Maryland wide receiver Stefon Diggs has been named to the 2014 Maxwell Award Watch List and the 2014 Paul Hornung Award Watch List as announced Monday by the Maxwell Football Club and Louisville Sports Commission, respectively.
Diggs is one of 19 wide outs included on the 74-man watch list for the Maxwell Award, which honors the nation’s top collegiate football player. The junior is also one of 10 players from the Big Ten to be selected to the watch list.
The Gaithersburg, Md., native is one of 47 players to be named to the Paul Hornung Award Watch List, which is given to the most versatile player in major college football, and one of 10 players from the Big Ten.
Diggs finished second on the team in receptions and receiving yards last season despite missing the last five games with a leg injury. In seven games, Diggs had 34 receptions for 587 yards and three touchdowns and averaged 83.9 yards receiving per game.
Semifinalists for the Maxwell Award will be announced Nov. 3, while the three finalists for each award will be unveiled Nov. 24. The winner of the 2014 Maxwell Award will be announced as part of the Home Depot College Football Awards Show held on Dec. 11. The formal presentations of these awards will be made at the Maxwell Football Club Awards Gala on March 6, 2015.
Fan voting will factor into the Paul Hornung Award finalists and winner. Voting will run through the regular season and again during the bowl season. Fan voting will open in late September.
The winner will be honored at the official Paul Hornung Award Banquet held at the Galt House Hotel and Suites in Louisville, Ky., in late January-2015.
