Monday Morning’s Crabs and Beer

February 18, 2008 | Glenn Clark

I swore I was going to do a full update today. I swore I had written half of an update last night. Unfortunately, we’re doing some syndicated stuff on the weekends, and I’m not getting the day off today to make up for it. Bloggers, I’ll get you tomorrow I promise.

In the update I started to write yesterday, I was going to say that Maryland’s win over Florida State was very important. In past years, this would be the EXACT type of game that the Terps would find a way to lose. This team is different. It was important that they re-affirm that they truly are in the top third of the ACC. They’re still good.

Bigger Congratulations to Coach Brenda Frese and the Terps women. That’s just awesome stuff all around. I hope Coach can return in time for the NCAA Tournament. With her on the bench, they’re a legitimate National Championship contender.

Let’s see what everyone else has to say….

SOME QUICK THOUGHTS:

-I continue to like what I hear about Matt Wieters. I continue to like what I hear about Chris Ray. I continue to like what I hear about Ramon Hernandez. I continue to like what I hear about Dennis Sarfate. I’m concerned that only two of these guys will be with the team in April, and that none of them are starting pitchers.

-Alex Cintron doesn’t exactly do it for me. Deivi Cruz was nice for a season, but I don’t think Cintron is even on his level. Not exactly in the Aparicio-Belanger-Ripken-Bordick-Tejada shortstop chronology, huh?

-HUGE CONGRATULATIONS to Loyola’s Collin Finnerty on scoring a goal Saturday in his first game since the Duke Lacrosse scandal. I’m surprised this isn’t a bigger story in Baltimore. Is Loyola limiting what the media can say about this?

-UMBC continues to do special things as they pursue an America East title and their first NCAA Tournament berth. I hope you guys went out there for WNST Family Day. I hope you’ll go support Loyola at Reitz Arena tonight.

Talk to you tomorrow.

-G
