BALTIMORE, Md. —  Morgan State (1-7) continues the 2013-14 campaign at home in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference matchup against the Howard Bison on Saturday, December 7th at Hill Field House. The Bears will enter the contest attempting to bounce back from an 89-62 defeat against Maryland. Saturday night’s contest will mark the 101st basketball meeting between the teams. The Bears hold a 59-49 record against Howard since the series began in 1950-51. Tip-off at Hill Field House is scheduled for 4 p.m.

SCOUTING THE BiSON
The Bison welcomed back four veterans, including one starter, from a squad that posted a 6-24 overall record and went 4-12 in the MEAC. James Daniel leads the Bison by averaging 20.9 ppg and is shooting 37 percent (54-66) from beyond the arc. Prince Okoroh is the only other Bison who’s scoring in double-figures (14.4 ppg) and he also leads the team in rebounding (5.1 rpg). Oliver Ellison has chipped in 4.3 rpg and leads the Bison with 16 blocked shots thru 10 starts for the Bison. Kevin Nickleberry (Virginia Wesleyan ’86) enters his third season as Howard’s head men’s basketball coach where he currently holds a 9-32 record and is 108-134 overall. James Daniel and Marcel Boyd each scored 15 points, but it was not enough to overcome some poor shooting and several miscues as Howard fell 76-52 to American University in a non-conference men’s game at Bender Arena. The Bison (2-8) got off to a slow start and could not find any rhythm on offense as the Eagles (3-4) made sure that Howard’s two top scorers would not get off early.  PrinceOkoroh, who came into the game off a 40-point performance in the overtime loss to William and Mary, failed to get a field goal and was held to one free throw. Howard shot a season-low 19 percent and trailed, 36-13 at the half.

Feb. 11, 2013 — Morgan State redshirt-junior Ian Chiles scored 16 points and hit a pair of clutch free throws to help the Bears hold off Howard for a 53-51 victory Monday night at Burr Gymnasium. Morgan State (8-12, 4-5) won the rebound battle 37-25 and outscored the Bison 30-10 in the paint. Junior Justin Black had 13 points and eight rebounds, while sophomore guard Blake Bozeman had 11 points for the Bears.
