Saturday Morning’s Crabs And Beer

December 08, 2007 | Glenn Clark

Sorry for not being able to get you a full update tonight, I had the Coyotes-Sharks assignment, and the AZ High School Football Championship assignment Friday. Today, I have my own show, ASUCoppin State Basketball (Go Eagles!), and we’re hosting an event for MayweatherHatton (I’ll say Hatton in the 10th), and the UFC Fight (I’ll take Huerta stopping Guida in the 2nd) tomorrow night. So no blogs in today’s Crabs and Beer, but certainly still plenty to talk about.

I hope Paul Johnson really considered what he was doing in taking the job at Georgia Tech. Chan Gailey was fired after a 7 win season that included a victory over a very good Clemson team. Navy beat only one team that finished bowl eligible this season (Air Force), and lost to Ball State and Delaware. Obviously, Johnson will be able to recruit MUCH better athletes at Tech, but the pressure for him to succeed will be GREAT. Gailey played for an ACC title just a year ago; and played in a New Year’s Day Bowl Game. Johnson will be expected to beat Georgia and win conference titles. I hope he’s ready.

I thought Duke made a lot more sense for Johnson, as he could become a folk hero by just getting 6 wins; allowing himself to feel out ACC football, then move on to a bigger and better head coaching job. Johnson apparently doesn’t think he needs another step.

I certainly hold no negative feelings towards Paul Johnson; and if I were a Navy fan, I’d probably sing his praises. However, Johnson is in the ACC now, so I hope the Terps beat him by 70 points the first time they play.

Let’s see what everyone else has to say…..

The Sun recaps Friday night action

-Okay, the suspensions have been handed out. Can we please, finally, officially move on from Monday Night? I know that I’m the only one who noticed, but the Colts are here TOMORROW. Please get ready people.

-Did anyone else think that Jimmy Patsos would have had the Loyola program turned around by now, and ‘Hounds fans would be winning the MAAC annually while Patsos prepared to head to a much bigger and better gig? Does anyone wonder if that is ever going to happen now for Patsos?

-Who’s next at Navy? I haven’t sorted through this yet. Would they consider going after a lower division guy again? Maybe Appalachian State’s Jerry Moore? I will work on this.

-My live sports pick tomorrow is the Blast and Ignition, as the Blast try to get back in the win column. Go out and see the Bowling on Rt. 40 too if you haven’t yet.

Talk to you tomorrow with a BIG Ravens/Colts, Terps/BC version of Crabs and Beer. You can hear me sometime this afternoon between 3 and 4 joining my buddy Mark Suchy. (But I’ll give you permission to listen to his ENTIRE show, not just my appearance. You can thank me later.)
