I understand why the Ravens are wary of giving a 35 year old receiver any sort of extension; I really do. But in the case of Derrick Mason, I think they’d do the right thing by adding an extra year to his contract. The Ravens have an issue at wide receiver right now; and they don’t have even as much as ONE wide receiver under contract past this season. I can’t see signing Derrick Mason as the type of thing that breaks the bank; and I don’t think Ozzie has anything to prove by ignoring him.
It really isn’t uncommon for a player going into the final year of his contract to want some more security. Even at 35, it isn’t unreasonable for the player who I believe was this team’s most valuable a season ago to not want to go into the final year of his deal.

SOME QUICK THOUGHTS:
-No Suntrust Athlete of the Morning; but I appreciate everyone who offered suggestions for Spring Athletes of the Morning; as I was able to learn about some of the lacrosse, baseball, and softball players I’ll need to know more about this season.
-Loyola 9, Bryant 5. Bryant beat Mt. St. Mary’s, but Loyola is a better team than Mount.
-Navy 8, Lehigh 5. It probably shouldn’t be this close; but a mid-week road trip doesn’t always lend to best performances.
Talk to you tomorrow.
