Wednesday Morning’s Crabs & Beer

October 24, 2007 | Glenn Clark

Ray Lewis has been around long enough to get away with it. That doesn’t make it right for him to open his mouth the way he did. We were told that the organization was concerned about having so many players host their own radio shows, and we’re starting to see why. The bigger problem is this organization’s continued capitulation to 52. Billick isn’t mad at Ray, but he should be. Maybe not every Head Coach should be, but Brian Billick should be, because he’s PR GURU BRIAN FREAKING BILLICK! There’s no way he should be okay with what 52 has to say.  Let’s see what everyone has to say….

SOME QUICK THOUGHTS:

-I have talked to a couple former Ravens tonight (Tommy Knight and Qadry Ismail) about what AD had to say. They both say that there have always been individual egos on this defense, but that more importantly is the collective ego of the Baltimore Ravens defense. I’m actually totally okay with that, as I want the defense to have the pride to say “We’re the Baltimore Ravens defense, you’re not going to accomplish anything against us!” In a perfect world, both sides of the ball would share in the ego, but we’ve never seen that here.

-I’m glad that Brian Billick admitted play calling mistakes, but I’m also surprised by it. Is Billick lightening up because he feels his job is in danger? That wouldn’t surprise me, but it would disappoint me.

-Kevin Millar cannot be foolish enough to think that no one would be angry about his participation in the ALCS. He’s hoping that everyone will forget about what he did by the time Opening Day rolls around, and sadly-given the state of the Orioles-he’s probably right.

-I’m starting to get worried that the Terps’ injuries will help make sure that James Davis comes through on his guarantee. I won’t make a pick today, but don’t forget that the Terps stole one at Death Valley last year, and the Tigers desperately need this win.

-The more I read about Gus Gilchrist, the more excited I get. This guy could be special.

-Today’s horse racing news is further proof that this state desperately needs slots. This HAS to be taken care of.

Talk to you tomorrow.

-G
