Pike Named As First Team Offensive Tackle
TOWSON, Md. – Senior offensive tackle Eric Pike (DuVal H.S./Landover, Md.), junior running back Terrance West (Northwestern H.S./Baltimore, Md.) and senior cornerback Jordan Love (Deep Run H.S./Washington, D.C.) of Towson University have been named to the 2013 FCS Pre-Season All-American team, as selected byBeyond Sports Network.
A three-year starter at left tackle, Pike was named to the All-America first team while West earned third team All-America notice. Love was named as an honorable mention All-America cornerback.
A first team All-Colonial Athletic Association selection as junior, Pike has been mainstay on the offensive line for the Tigers the last two years. A third team All-CAA selection as a sophomore in 2011, he had led the Tigers to back-to-back CAA championships. Pike has started all 34 games of his college career. Led by Pike, Towson has had one of the most productive offenses in FCS football the last two years while compiling a 16-7 record.
Honored as the winner of the Jerry Rice Award as the top freshman in FCS football in 2011, West has earned first team All-CAA honors the last two years. In two seasons with the Tigers, he has rushed for 2,340 yards and scored 44 touchdowns. As a freshman, he set a school record with 29 rushing touchdowns. In 2012, he was second in the CAA with 1,046 rushing yards and led the CAA with 15 touchdowns scored. West has been named as the CAA Offensive Player of the Week three times in his career.
A transfer from Georgia, Love started all 11 games at cornerback for the Tigers last season and earned second team All-CAA notice. He finished eighth on the team with 35 tackles and broke up five passes. Love also led the Tigers with two interceptions. His overtime interception at Delaware clinched Towson’s 34-27 victory.
The Tigers, who won the 2011 CAA championship and shared the 2012 title, have posted an impressive 16-7 record the last two years. In addition, Towson has a 16-4 mark against NCAA FCS opponents during that time. During the last two years, the Tigers have lost to FBS opponents Kent State, Maryland and Louisiana State.
Coach Rob Ambrose and the Tigers open their 2013 season on August 30 against the University of Connecticut.
