Tigers Open SECU Arena Against Navy on November 8; Host Temple on November 14

TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University men’s basketball team will play a total of 16 regular season home games inside brand new SECU Arena as the Tigers announced their 2013-14 schedule today. Towson will take on eight teams that reached post-season play last year, including four 2013 NCAA Tournament teams.

Third-year head coach Pat Skerry and the Tigers will face off against teams from 11 different conferences during this year’s non-conference slate of games, including squads from the BIG EAST, Pac-12, Big 12 and American Athletic Conference.

“We’re extremely excited about a challenging non-conference schedule which will prepare us for the battles that we’re going to see night in and night out in the CAA,” said Skerry. “We’re really excited about the number of home games that we’re going to be able to play in SECU Arena, starting with Navy, Morgan State and Temple right out of the gate. We’re also thrilled that we’ll be playing so many of the local area teams.”

Fans will have a chance to get an early look at the team and check out SECU Arena when the Tigers host a pair of exhibition games to start the year. Towson will take on Bloomsburg University on October 24 and Mansfield University on October 30 before beginning regular season play.

SECU Arena will host its first regular season games on November 8 as both the men and women play Navy as part of a double header. The Tigers will remain at home to take on local rival Morgan State on November 12 and Temple onNovember 14. The Owls advanced to the third round of the 2013 NCAA Tournament and will be making just their second trip to Towson.

The Tigers will then hit the road for a pair of nationally-televised games. Towson travels to Villanova (November 17) and Kansas (November 22) as part of the Battle 4 Atlantis Tournament. The game against the Wildcats can be seen on FOX Sports 1 and the contest against the Jayhawks can be viewed on ESPN3. Both squads qualified for the NCAA Tournament last year with Kansas reaching the Sweet 16.

After a home game against UMBC on November 26, Towson will host the mainland bracket of the Battle 4 Atlantis Tournament. The Citadel, Abilene Christian and West Alabama will come to SECU Arena for the two-day tournament, which will run November 29-30. Each team will play two games with opponents and game times still to be determined.

The Tigers will then take part in the Lumberjack E-Tech Classic in Nacogdoches, Texas. Towson will take on Sam Houston St. on December 6 and battle host school Stephen F. Austin on December 7.

The Tigers will play their final two non-conference home games of the year on December 10 against Central Penn andDecember 30 against New Hampshire with their longest road trip of the year sandwiched in between. Less than a year after upsetting Oregon State on the road, Towson will again travel across the country to take on the Beavers on December 18. That game can be seen on the Pac-12 Network. Before returning home, the Tigers will take on North Dakota State in Fargo on December 21.

Towson will wrap-up its non-conference slate on January 4 at Coppin State.

The Tigers will play a balanced 16-game CAA schedule in 2014, facing each member school both at home and on the road.
