TOWSON, Md. – Mid-Major Madness has named Towson forward Jerrelle Benimon a Mid-Major First Team All-American, it was announced on Monday. Benimon is joined on the first team by Wichita State’s Cleanthony Early and Fred Van Vleet, Canisius’ Billy Baron and UCSB’s Alan Williams.

Benimon adds this honor to an already impressive list of accolades received during his senior season. In addition to being named the Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Year for the second straight season, the forward was named Most Valuable Player of the Reese’s College All-Star Game at the Final Four this past weekend.

An NABC All-District 10 first-team honoree, Benimon guided Towson to a Division I school-record 25 wins during the 2013-14 season, including a pair of victories in the Postseason Tournament.

Benimon led Towson in scoring (18.7 ppg), rebounding (11.2 rpg) and assists (3.6 apg). His rebounding average ranked second in the NCAA and his 21 double-doubles were third best in the country. Benimon’s 404 rebounds are a new school record and only trails Navy’s David Robinson for the most rebounds in a season in CAA history.

The Mid-Major All-America Second Team is made up of Massachusetts’s Chaz Williams, BYU’s Tyler Haws, North Dakota State’s Taylor Braun, Green Bay’s Keifer Sykes and Buffalo’s Javon McCrea.
