BENIMON REPEATS AS CAA MEN’S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Senior forward averaged 24.5 points and 16 rebounds in Towson’s 2-0 week
RICHMOND Va. – Towson University senior forward Jerrelle Benimon was named the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, it was announced by the league on Monday. It’s the second straight CAA weekly award for Benimon, who has garnered the honor four times this season and eight times in the last two years.
Benimon averaged 24.5 points and 16.0 rebounds in Towson’s 2-0 week. The senior forward now has an NCAA-best 20 double-doubles after tallying 28 points and 16 rebounds in a 69-66 win at James Madison and following with 21 points and 16 boards in a 70-68 triumph over William & Mary.
For the week, Benimon shot 54.8 percent from the floor, including 40 percent from three-point range, and 81.3 percent from the free throw line.
Second-seeded Towson (22-9, 13-3 CAA) will take on seventh-seeded James Madison on Saturday in the CAA Championship quarterfinal round. The game, set to tip at 6 p.m. from Baltimore Arena, can be seen live on Comcast SportsNet.
