Tigers Host La Salle in Non-Conference Showdown
La Salle is the Last Team Towson Defeated
TOWSON, Md. – After a brief dip into Colonial Athletic Association play Saturday, the Towson men’s basketball team returns to its challenging non-conference slate of games. The Tigers welcome Atlantic 10 foe La Salle to the Towson Center for a Wednesday showdown against the Explorers at 7 p.m.
Towson (0-7) played its cleanest game of the season Wednesday, but still came up short in a 65-53 loss to CAA power George Mason. Sophomore Marcus Damas hit for a career-high 25 points on 9-of-14 shooting and pulled down five rebounds to pace the Tiger attack.
La Salle enters the game 5-3 overall and riding a three-game winning streak. The Explorers defeated CAA opponent Northeastern 68-51 last Wednesday and topped Bucknell 78-52 on Saturday. La Salle is led by Earl Pettis‘ 14.3 points and 4.9 rebounds per game.
La Salle was the last team Towson defeated. The Tigers upended the Explorers on the road, 93-90, in overtime on December 29, 2010. Josh Brown hit a three-pointer as the regulation buzzer sounded and the Tigers went on for the three-point win in the extra frame.
The squads have met only one other time on the hardwood with La Salle prevailing, 79-78, in 1983.
Wednesday’s contest will be the second of three straight home games for the Tigers.
