UNBEATEN TIGERS MAINTAIN NUMBER THREE NATIONAL RANKING

Tigers Ranked Third For Third Straight Week

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – After a 44-28 victory over nationally-ranked New Hampshire, the undefeated Towson University football team maintained its third place standing in the weekly FCS poll which was announced by The Sports Network.

Towson has been ranked third in the nation the last two weeks and was ranked fourth the two previous weeks. The Tigers started the year as the 11th-ranked team in FCS. They moved up to fifth after a season-opening victory over Connecticut.

This is the highest national ranking at the FCS level that the Tigers have ever received.

Towson is ranked third in the nation behind defending national champion North Dakota State (5-0) and Sam Houston State (4-1). North Dakota State survived an upset bid by No. 4 Northern Iowa and edged UNI, 24-23. Sam Houston State was idle last week.

Towson is only eight points behind Sam Houston State.

The top six teams in the weekly poll remained the same as last week. North Dakota State, Sam Houston State, Towson, Northern Iowa, Eastern Illinois and Eastern Washington are ranked one through six.

The Tigers, who have won their last 10 games, own the second-longest winning streak in FCS football. North Dakota State has a 14-game winning streak.

Towson is one of five Colonial Athletic Association teams ranked in the FCS Top 25. Maine (4-1) is ranked 14th, just ahead of No. 15 Villanova (3-2). James Madison (4-2) moved into the Top 25 after a win over Albany while New Hampshire (1-3) is ranked 25th after losing to Towson.

Towson is one of three FCS schools that have a perfect 6-0 record. No. 10 Fordham and Charleston Southern are also 6-0.

The Tigers will be seeking their 11th consecutive victory when they host No. 15 Villanova on Saturday night at 7:00 p.m.
