TOWSON, Md. - Less than three months after facing North Dakota State in the FCS championship game, Coach Rob Ambrose and the Tigers opened their spring season on Thursday morning at 5:30 a.m.

“When I woke up at 4:00 a.m., it was 23 degrees and I just groaned,” recalled the Tigers’ sixth-year coach. “I don’t think it was this cold last January when we were preparing for North Dakota State.”

Although the Tigers lost a lot of players to graduation, Ambrose was pleased with what he saw on Thursday morning.

“What struck me the most was the recruiting job we have done the last few years,” he said. “We have a lot of talent on this team. But, we are really, really young, especially on offense.”

Ambrose added, “In a way, this reminds me of spring of 2011. We have a lot of young guys who are hungry. But they need the experience. It should be an interesting spring.”

The Tigers return to spring practice on Saturday morning at 8 a.m.
