Tiger Running Back Led Towson To Win Over Connecticut

RICHMOND, Va. – Junior running back Terrance West (Northwestern H.S./Baltimore, Md.) of Towson University has been named as the Colonial Athletic Association Offensive Player of the Week for the week ending August 31, it has been announced by CAA officials.

West earned the honor for the fourth time in his career after rushing for 156 yards on a career high 36 carries and scored two touchdowns in the 33-18 win over Connecticut. The Tigers’ win over Connecticut marked their first-ever victory over an NCAA FBS program.

With 5:14 remaining in regulation, West scored on a six-yard touchdown run on fourth down to give the Tigers a 26-10 lead. After UConn cut its deficit to 26-18 with a 68-yard touchdown drive, West scored the game-clinching touchdown when he scored on a five-yard run on fourth-and-goal with 16 seconds left.

For West, it was the 12th 100-yard rushing game of his career. It was also the 17th time in his 22-game career that he has scored more than one touchdown.

The fifth-leading rusher in school history, West has run for 2,496 yards on 424 carries in his career. He has also scored 46 career touchdowns, one shy of the Towson career record set by Jason Corle, ’99.

“Terrance has become an even better football player,” says Towson Coach Rob Ambrose. “He has become a student of the game and he has become a very good teammate.”

Named as the 2012 and 2013 CAA Pre-Season Offensive Player of the Year, West was also named as the CAA Offensive Player of the Week twice as a freshman in 2011. He also earned the award in the final week of the 2012 season when he ran for 236 yards on 19 carries and scored two touchdowns in a 64-35 win over New Hampshire.

The Tigers will be on the road again this week when they travel to Holy Cross on Saturday, Sept. 7 for a non-conference game against the Crusaders at 1:00 p.m.

The Tigers’ home opener is set for Saturday, Sept. 14 against Delaware State at 7:30 p.m.
