UNBEATEN TIGERS MAINTAIN NUMBER THREE NATIONAL RANKING

Tigers Ranked Third For Second Straight Week

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. –  Coming off a 35-21 come-from-behind victory over Stony Brook, the undefeated Towson University football team maintained its third place standing in the weekly FCS poll which was announced by The Sports Network.

Towson was ranked third in the nation last week and was ranked fourth the last two previous weeks. The Tigers started the year as the 11th-ranked team in FCS. They moved up to fifth after a season-opening victory over Connecticut.

This is the highest national ranking at the FCS level that the Tigers have ever received.

Towson is ranked third in the nation behind defending national champion North Dakota State (4-0) and Sam Houston State (4-1). Sam Houston State was ranked fourth last week but moved ahead of Towson with a 49-34 victory over No. 2 Eastern Washington. Towson is only 28 points behind Sam Houston State.

Sam Houston State was the NCAA FCS runner-up to North Dakota State the last two years.

There was quite a shakeup in the Top 10 over the weekend. North Dakota State and Towson are the only two schools that are ranked the same as last week.

Northern Iowa (4-0) moved up to number four nationally while Eastern Illinois (4-1) is ranked fifth. Eastern Washington (2-2) dropped to sixth while South Dakota State (3-2) fell to seventh. Montana State (3-2) and Coastal Carolina (5-0) both moved into the Top Ten for the first time this season. Montana State is eighth and Coastal Carolina is ninth.

Fordham (5-0) made a big jump from 16th to 12th while Lehigh (4-0) jumped up to 13th from 21stafter a win over No. 10 New Hampshire.

The Tigers, who have won their last nine games, own the second-longest winning streak in FCS football. North Dakota State has a 13-game winning streak.

Towson is one of five Colonial Athletic Association teams ranked in the FCS Top 25. New Hampshire (1-2) is ranked 19th while Villanova is ranked 20th. Maine (4-1) and Delaware (4-1) joined the Top 25 for the first time this week. The Black Bears are ranked 23rd and the Blue Hens are 24th.

Towson is one of five FCS schools that have a perfect 5-0 record. Coastal Carolina, Fordham, Sacred Heart and Charleston Southern are also 5-0.

The Tigers will be seeking their tenth consecutive victory when host No. 19 New Hampshire on Saturday at 12 noon.
