Tigers Host Cross-Town Rival UMBC Saturday
Towson & UMBC To Play For 53rd Time
TOWSON, Md. – Towson will complete a three-game homestand Saturday as the Tigers welcome cross-town rival UMBC to the Towson Center Arena for a 7 p.m. tip.
Towson (0-8) has won four straight against UMBC, including an 86-77 victory in Baltimore last season. Both squads will be looking for their first win of the year as the Retrievers are winless in seven contests thus far.
Tiger forward Marcus Damas has been performing well in front of the home crowd in 2011, averaging 18.3 points and 7.0 rebounds per game at the Towson Center. The sophomore currently ranks in the Top 15 in the Colonial Athletic Association in scoring, rebounding and field goal percentage.
UMBC, which is playing its fifth straight on the road, is led by sophomore Chris Plummer. The forward has scored in double figures six times this season, including a team-high 18 points against American last Saturday.
Saturday will be the 53rd all-time meeting between the squads. Towson has only played Loyola (Md.), Delaware, Drexel and Hofstra more often. The Tigers lead the series 34-18.
