Live From Owings Mills: Heap, Zbikowski, Mason Miss Practice Again

December 16, 2010 | Glenn Clark

OWINGS MILLS, Md. — The Baltimore Ravens (9-4) returned to practice Friday, continuing preparations for their Sunday showdown against the New Orleans Saints (10-3) at M&T Bank Stadium.

The Ravens made a depth chart change in their Week 14 win over the Houston Texans at Reliant Stadium, inserting OT Oniel Cousins at RT and moving Marshal Yanda back to his more familiar RG spot. The team used OL Chris Chester as a TE in jumbo packages.

Expect to see the Ravens stick with Cousins at RT moving forward. They have since updated their official depth chart to reflect the change, and Cousins has been working with the first team O-Line throughout the week. Chester would be a likely candidate to see more playing time at TE in jumbo packages.

Offensive Coordinator Cam Cameron says Chester “was a huge plus” for the Ravens in unbalanced situations. “With Oniel in there, it gave us a chance to put another guy beside him where we can be physical.”

The Saints (lead by Defensive Coordinator Gregg Williams) have tallied 26 sacks this season, including three in a Week 14 win over the St. Louis Rams.

The Ravens allowed five sacks in their win over the Titans.

“We’ve gotta continue to get that solved” said Cameron. “It’s just a matter of sustaining blocks and getting the ball to come out.”

PRACTICE REPORT: TE Todd Heap (hamstring) was not present during the open portion of practice Wednesday, he has not participated since being forced to leave the team’s Week 13 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers in the first quarter. He is not expected to be available for Sunday’s game.

S Tom Zbikowski (calf) and WR Derrick Mason (ankle) were also missing from the field during the open portion of practice Thursday. Neither had practiced Wednesday. Mason said following practice Thursday “I’ll be allright” for Sunday’s game.

Heap and Zbikowski were not available after practice.

FB Le’Ron McClain (no known injury) was not present during the open portion of practice Thursday. McClain may simply be sick, as he said Thursday morning via his Twitter account “Not feeling good at all this morning I need a doctor.”

S Ed Reed was not present during the open portion of practice, but is often a late arrival.
