Carlee Cassidy Leads UMBC Women’s Basketball To Improbable Comeback Victory Over Boston U

February 24, 2010 |

UMBC’s star player and lone senior couldn’t have written a better story for her final game at the RAC.

Carlee Cassidy scored 25 points and had nine rebounds as the UMBC women’s basketball team came back from a 23 point second half deficit to beat Boston U, 58-57, and remain in fourth place in the America East Conference.

In the first half the team could do nothing right. They were shooting just 21.7%, and let the Terriers convert 48.3% of their shots and at the half they were trailing by 19 points.

Boston U quickly made that a 23 points deficit for UMBC, but a three-pointer by Meghan Colabella broke open a 19 point run for the Retrievers.

Boston U got back up by nine points, but UMBC didn’t stop fighting. They got their first lead outside of the first few seconds with fine minutes remaining. But it still wouldn’t be that easy. With two minutes left Boston U took the lead back, but Cassidy scored the final four points for UMBC to get the one point victory.

Michelle Kurowski scored 14 points while Colabella had 11.
