It looked to be going into overtime. With two second left after a Towson layup the game was knotted up at 72, but a long inbounds pass to Carlee Cassidy resulted in two points for UMBC, and the 74-72 win.
With Towson up 32-27 and the Retrievers lack of success on the road the last two years it would not have been a surprise to see UMBC not make that comeback, but this time they did.
While Cassidy hit the game winning shot, giving her 15 points in the game, it was Meghan Colabella and reserve Erin Brown who led the team with 16 points. Each also recorded five rebounds.
Brown led the team with four three’s, shooting 4-6 from beyond the arc.
For the second time this season Michelle Kurowski recorded a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
While those four scored in double-digits, four other Retrievers contributed to the score as Topé Obajolu scored five, Katie Brooks scored four with a team high eight assists, and Michelle Brokans and Chelsea Barker each recording two points.
The win evens the Retrievers record at 2-2 with their third straight road game on Saturday as they will take on Bucknell at 2:00 pm.
