UMBC travels to Annapolis to face Navy Saturday night

UMBC continues its non-conference slate versus local foes when the Retrievers take on Navy for the first time since 2005 on Saturday, Nov. 23 at 7:00 p.m. The two teams will meet twice over the next six weeks with the first meeting occurring in Annapolis.

RETRIEVER UPDATE:  The UMBC men’s basketball team tied an NCAA Division I record by playing in their fourth consecutive overtime game, but extra time was unkind to the Retrievers as they fell, 89-83, to visiting Loyola at the RAC Arena on Nov. 20. Whereas UMBC wiped out a 23-point deficit three days earlier to defeat Mount St. Mary’s in overtime, the Greyhounds erased a 17-point Retriever second frame advantage to pull out the victory. Malik Garner led four Retrievers in double figures with 18 points.

MIDSHIPMEN UPDATE:  Navy will plays its first home game against a Division I squad when the Retrievers visit on Saturday. The Mids overwhelmed Goucher at home, 98-47 and have gone 1-3 on the road. The road victory was a 68-50 victory at UMBC America East rival Binghamton a week ago. Junior guard Brandon Venturini is the sole Midshipment to average in double figures to date with 10.8 points per game. He averages just over 20 minutes played per game as 16 Navy players average 6.0 or more minutes played per outing.
