UMBC tries to get back on track Wednesday at Albany

After a tough journey and setback at UMass Lowell on Sunday, UMBC (4-10, 0-1 America East) heads right back on the road to face defending league champion Albany (7-7, 1-0) at SEFCU Arena on Wednesday, Jan. 9 (7:00 p.m. tip-off). Live streaming is  available on the America East digital network at www.americaeast.tv. Streaming is also now available on most mobile devices.

RETRIEVER UPDATE: Due to travel concerns, UMBC bused the 7.5 hours to and from UML this weekend. Despite getting out to a 15-0 start, the Retrievers struggled from the floor over the last 30 minutes and fell to the Riverhawks, 59-54. FR G Rodney Elliott, who just earned his third league Rookie of the Week honor, led UMBC with points, but his 3-point attempt to tie the game in the final seconds was off the mark.

GREAT DANE UPDATE: Albany got off to a tremendous start in league play with a convincing 81-56 victory over Hartford on Jan. 4. UA his a program-record 16 treys in the contest. Guards Peter Hooley (25 pts.) and D.J. Evans (20 pts.) combined to hit 12-of-17 shots from behind the arc. Hooley, a sophomore, leads UA with 14.9 points per game, while junior forward Sam Rowley averages 12.6 points and a team-high 6.7 caroms per outing.

WHO’S UP NEXT: UMBC returns home to face an explosive Maine squad at the RAC Arena on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.  UMBC’s first six league games occur in a span of 16 days.
