Last season the road was not pleasent for UMBC women’s basketball team. They lost by over 20.0 ppg in the 2008-09 season and this year they lost by 22 points in there first road game. It looked to be a good road trip for the women’s basketball team as they led by 8-1 in the fist four minutes, but St. Joseph’s went on an 11-2 run to get the lead, which they never lost.
While the first half was close and UMBC was in striking distance at 34-31 in the Hawk’s favor, the Retrievers were outscored 43-24 in the sedon hald to lose by 22 points.
Sophomore point guard Katie Brooks came just one rebound away from a double-double with 12 points and nine rebounds.
Tied for team high in points was Carlee Cassidy, who had five rebounds and four assist to her 12 point performance, and Erin Brown who had 12 points and five rebounds off the bench.
Michelle Kurowski added 11 points with four assists to keep her streak of game scoring in double-digits alive at three to start the season, four if you include last season’s quarter final game against Binghamton.
Only two other Retrievers scored in the game. Meghan Colabella, who’s last two games were double-double’s had a decent game with six points and seven rebounds, while Topé Obajolu scored two points.
Despite the Retrievers solid play for two games this season, they do have a losing record at 1-2, and will try to even it out and overcome their road woes with a trip up I-95 to Towson on Tuesday, Novembr 24 at 7:00 pm/
