UMBC Women’s Basketball Falls To Stony Brook In Season Finale

February 27, 2010 |

On the final day of the regular season the UMBC women’s basketball team fell to Stony Brook for the second time this season and fell from the fourth seed in the America East tournament to the sixth seed, by virtue of the 59-48 loss.

After leading the entire first half, Stony Brook went on a 16-2 run to start the second half to take a big lead over UMBC. After that UMBC struggled to get things going and the offense shutdown in the second half.

Michelle Kurowski led the team with 14 points while Erin Brown got the start over an injured Katie Brooks and scored 11 points and had 10 rebounds.

Oddly enough though UMBC is in a much better position to make a run in the tournament with the loss.

If they would have won the game they would have had to face Binghamton in the first round. UMBC does not match up well against the Bearcats and they lost to them twice this season by an average of 23.5 points.

But with the loss they will face Boston U, who they have beaten twice this season, including a 23-point second half comeback on Wednesday. Boston U may be a much more talented team, and UMBC did only eek by them each time, but they match up well against them.
