UMBC Women’s Basketball On Wrong End Of 80-63 Rout By Binghamton

January 19, 2010 |

After appearing to be a serious contender in the America East the UMBC women’s basketball team has fallen apart in their last two games, losing to two teams that they should have beaten. But their defense struggled and took them out of both games.

Against Binghamton, four Retrievers scored in double figures- Katie Brooks (13), Carlee Cassidy (11), Tope Obajolu (10), and Chelsea Barker (10), but Binghamton made 11 three-pointers and scored 80 points in the game.

Seven of those three-pointers came from Erica Cater, who led Binghamton with 27 points. Viive Rebane and Andrea Holmes each added 17 points for the Bearcats.

While the game was close in the first half Binghamton ran away with it in the second half and led by at least 12 points in the final 20 minutes.

UMBC will have one more chance to get a win on their three game home-stand as they take on Vermont on Thursday at 12:00. Vermont is 14-3 so far and has earned national recognition, earning a No. 24 ranking in the AP poll.
