Get ready for the best rivalry in college lacrosse

The best rivalry in College Lacrosse convenes for the 108th time at Homewood Field when Johns Hopkins hosts Maryland Saturday night at Homewood Field. The 9-1 Blue Jays seem like this year’s favorite over the 6-3 Terps, but don’t be fooled, you throw the records out when these two teams get together. All you have to do is look back at last year’s 12-11 OT victory by the Blue Jays to understand that. Last year Maryland had the more veteran and deeper team, but the game itself came down to a couple of key plays. Maryland jumped out to an early lead but Maryland Goalkeeper Niko Amato’s late third quarter turnover led to a Zach Palmer goal and seemed to swing the momentum in Hopkins’ favor. The Terps unleashed a wicked shot off the crossbar late in the game, and that opened the door to Kyle Wharton’s game winner :16 into OT. Tim McGinnis’ call on the Maryland shot that hit the bar was priceless. He even made up a new word on the air “doinky”. Those are the kind of things that happens when these two teams meet!

It was great having both  coaches on WNST this week. You can listen to both coaches interviews in the WNST Buyatoyota.com Audio Vault. Here are the links below:

    Hey Paul –

Yes MD – HOP is always a great rivalry, but the better rivalry and game to watch tonight is Stevenson – Salisbury @ 7 p.m. in Owings Mills. Sick individual skill players on both sides and alot riding on the game, its arguably going to be the best lacrosse game to watch all season nationwide. Salisbury is undefeated and Stevenson has already upset 2 other strong D3 teams. Its going to be war.
