The Blue Jays hold the alltime edge in the season series 68-38-1 dating back all the way to 1895 when Hopkins defeated Maryland 10-0. Maybe Willard Scott can track down someone who was at that game. A win on Saturday would give Hopkins Head Coach Dave Pietramala a 159-59 record all time as a Head Lacrosse Coach. 100 games over .500 is an amazing stat, especially when you consider that there aren’t too many cupcakes in there. Hopkins plays the toughest schedule of anyone year in and year out. Petriemala also owns the state of Maryland. He is 56-4 against his Maryland rivals, losing three times to the Terps and once to the Naval Academy.
Maryland and Head Coach John Tillman are coming off of last year’s final four appearance and need this victory to improve their resume for the NCAA tournament. Of the Terps six wins the only win over a top 10 team is Duke. They also have a win vs. #15 Villanova, but a win vs. the #3 Blue Jays would really cement the resume.
Here’s the tale of the tape courtesy of the Terps website:

Hey Paul –
Yes MD – HOP is always a great rivalry, but the better rivalry and game to watch tonight is Stevenson – Salisbury @ 7 p.m. in Owings Mills. Sick individual skill players on both sides and alot riding on the game, its arguably going to be the best lacrosse game to watch all season nationwide. Salisbury is undefeated and Stevenson has already upset 2 other strong D3 teams. Its going to be war.
