Dear Roger

September 02, 2010 |

Dear Roger Goodell,

We here in the City of Baltimore have grown fond of you and the job you are doing as Commissioner of the NFL. You seem to be fair and honest and have the best interest of the league in your plans and decisions.

This sets you apart from your predecessor and it is duly noted.

It doesn’t need to be discussed for the 1 millionth time, but your predecessor did not think much of Baltimore, in terms of an NFL town. I recall something about building museums and guaranteeing NFL football would thrive in Jacksonville. (F.Y.I. Jacksonville football has failed and they are the leading candidates to move to LA). So, when you came along and generally gave us a fair shake, which is all we asked for, it was heard and appreciated. Thank you.

This morning, you have yet another chance to continue to do what is right by the NFL, and that of course means what is right by the city of Baltimore.

Several months ago, you handed down a disciplinary sentence against an NFL star. That sentence was for 6 games, with the chance to work it down to a 4 game suspension based on his actions. It appears that said player (whose name I cannot spell) has done what he needed to do and a 4 game suspension will be applied. Nice, neat and orderly. No random conspiracy’s about anything. Good job.

However, if that suspension is brought down to 3 games, you have a BIG problem on your hands. A BIG PROBLEM!!! You will appear to have caved in to one of the league’s most treasured franchises (according you YOU!) at the expense of potentially harming a city that your predecessor didn’t much care for. This appearance will be accurate and it will not be tolerated. You must do what is right, and keep the suspension to the agreed upon length, which is 4 games. You must not cave into whatever pressure you may be feeling to reduce the sentence down to 3 games, just because it’s Pittsburgh. And make no mistake that is exactly what it will appear you will have done to be to everyone else who doesn’t live in Pittsburgh.

Make a wise, sensible, rational and fair decision.

Thank you,
Baltimore Ravens Fans, the most fair fans in the NFL
